The Effect Of Seed Size And Nitrogen On Root And Shoots In The First Development Stage Of Barley, Fahri̇ Sönmez Jan 2000

The Effect Of Seed Size And Nitrogen On Root And Shoots In The First Development Stage Of Barley, Fahri̇ Sönmez

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This research was conducted to determine the effects of seed size and nitrogen fertilization on seedling growth of barley cultivars Angora and Cumhuriyet-50 at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Faculty of Agriculture in 1997. According to results of the research, there were significiant differences between Angora and Cumhuriyet-50 cultivars for seedling length (in field research), leaf number, dry weight of above-soil surface organs, and root/dry weight ratio of above-soil surface organs. Seed size significiantly affected seedling length (in pot research), leaf number (in pot research), dry weight of above soil surface organs and root-dry weight, and large seeds produced heavier seedlings. …

The Combining Abilities Of Some Barley ( Hordeum Vulgarel.) Genotypes Under Saline Conditions, Riza Yilmaz, Cahi̇t Konak Jan 2000

The Combining Abilities Of Some Barley ( Hordeum Vulgarel.) Genotypes Under Saline Conditions, Riza Yilmaz, Cahi̇t Konak

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The salt tolerance of eight barley genotypes and their 15 F1 hybrid populations were investigated in line x tester analysis for seedling traits in greenhouse and generative stage characteristics in saline fields. The data indicated that there was sufficient genetic variability among genotypes for salt tolerance in barley. The MENTA "S" genotype for general combining ability and Tokak 157/37 x ZARZA "S", Quantum x No.56000/MISC-233 and Kaya-7794 x ZARZA "S" crosses for specific combining ability had positive and significant estimates both in greenhouse and field conditions. It was determined that spike length, number of grain per spike, single spike yield, …

Heterotic Effects Regarding Salt Tolerance In Some Characters Of Barley (Hordeum Vulgare L.), Riza Yilmaz, Cahi̇t Konak Jan 2000

Heterotic Effects Regarding Salt Tolerance In Some Characters Of Barley (Hordeum Vulgare L.), Riza Yilmaz, Cahi̇t Konak

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The salt tolerance of some barley genotypes and their cross populations were evaluated at seedling stage in a greenhouse, and at the generative stage in a saline field in line x tester analysis. Promising crosses were determined through comparison of heterotic effects. Tokak-157/37 x LIGNEE-640, Quantum x MENTA "S" and Kaya-7794 x MENTA "S" were found to be superior cross combinations with respect to salt tolerance in both greenhouse and field conditions. In the cross populations, the highest- positive heterosis values were 25.00% for seedling emergence, 26.53% for root length, 66.27% for shoot length to root length ratio, 9.39% for …

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This circular is a progress report of spring small grain trials grown throughout Nebraska, and proso, amaranth, sunflower, and field pea variety trials conducted by the Panhandle Research and Extension Center, Scottsbluff, and the High Plains Agricultural Laboratory, Sidney. Conduct of the experiments and publication of results is a joint effort of the Agricultural Research Division and the Cooperative Extension Service.

Ec00-103 Nebraska Fall-Sown Small Grain Variety Tests 2000, Lenis Alton Nelson, David D. Baltensperger, Robert N. Klein, Roger Wesley Elmore, P. Stephen Baenziger, Todd Campbell

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This circular is a progress report of variety trials conducted by personnel of the Agronomy Department and the South Central, West Central and Panhandle Research and Extension Centers and their associated agricultural laboraties. The 2000 estimated winter wheat yield for Nebraska was a 36 bushels per acre from 1,750,000 harvested acres. The total production of winter wheat for the state was 63,000,000 bushels. This circular reports data from winter wheat trials conducted throughout Nebraska. Entries included varieties or hybrids and promising experimental strains from Nebraska and surrounding states and private breeders. This was the ninetenth year for privately developed varieties. …

Nf00-429 Controlling Pond Algae With Barley Straw, John C. Holz Jan 2000

Nf00-429 Controlling Pond Algae With Barley Straw, John C. Holz

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Algae are microscopic, free-floating plants which comprise a critical component of a lake's food web. They are fed upon by tiny animals called zooplankton which are an important food source for fish. Algae color the water green or brown, and uncontrolled growth can lead to nuisance surface scums, poor water clarity, noxious odors and an overall reduction in the lake's recreational value. Excessive levels or "blooms" of algae occur when nutrients, especially phosphorus, are abundant. After taking steps to reduce the amount of phosphorus entering a lake, it may be desirable to control the algae growth directly. Typically this is …
