Effects Of Wheel Traffic Porosity And Compaction Of Soil Profile, Cevdet Şeker, A. Ali̇ Işildar Jan 2000

Effects Of Wheel Traffic Porosity And Compaction Of Soil Profile, Cevdet Şeker, A. Ali̇ Işildar

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The aim of this experimental study was to determine the effect on soil porosity and compaction of the number of the tractor passes on the soil surface. The soil has a sandy loam texture. A tractor passed once, twice, and four times while the water content of soil was near field capacity. Numbers of tractings increased soil bulk density and compaction, and decreased total porosity, void ratio, air porosity and drainage porosity. One and two tractor passes did not markedly affect the percentage of porosity kept at field capacity porosity, but four tractor passes improved it.

Determination Of The Mechanization Level For Forestry Operations By Linear Programming, Altay Uğur Gül, Hafiz Hulusi̇ Acar, Özgür Topalak

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Forestry operations take place under various variables and partly uncontrolled factors. The lack of mechanization level and its application cause quantity and quality losses during production. In this study, seven different production methods were used for felling, logging and barking to determine the best of production method for the Kale region. Seven different models were set up and solved by linear programming for this purpose. Each of these solutions were used with different production methods. Model 1 had the lowest production cost ($290779.5) in the other models and production method 6 was chosen in this model. Thus, felling, logging and …

Impacts Of Turkey's Integration Into The European Union On Agriculture In The Post-Uruguay Round Environment, Cemal Atici, P. Lynn Kennedy

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Agricultural trade policies between Turkey and the European Union are modeled using a political preference function (PPF). The PPF is used to estimate the producer and consumer weights perceived by policy makers. The agricultural effects of Turkey's integration into the European Union (EU) and optimal strategies for Turkey and the EU are analyzed Results show that Turkey' s PPF values will be lower, with respect to agriculture, when it joins the EU; however, EU trade liberalization benefits Turkey.

Comparison Of The Swelling And Shrinkage Characteristics Of Corcisan Pine (Pinus Nigra Var. Mantima), İlker Usta, Ari̇f Güray

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The objective of this study was to determine the volumetric swelling and shrinkage characteristics of air-dried Corsican pine in the longitudinal, tangential and radial directions. For this purpose, the swelling of the wood was caused by the wood being increased in water whilst placed in a swelling jig, and the shrinkage made in an oven by drying. The experimental results showed that although the differences in swelling or shrinking occur in the first 5 hours, both swelling and shrinkage are then negligible in the three directions. The values of swelling-shrinkage showed considerable difference among different directions; for instance, swelling-shrinkage in …
