Juvenile Fish And Blue Crab Stock Assessment Program Bottom Trawl Survey Annual Data Summary Report Volume 1999, Wendy A. Lowery, M. Todd Mathes, Patrick J. Geer

Reports

This report summarizes data collected by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) monthly trawl survey cruises for January to December 1999. The trawl survey is a long-term, broad scope monitoring program. Its primary goal is to monitor juvenile abundance for marine and estuarine finfish and invertebrates. A major objective is to provide annual indices of juvenile abundance for recreationally, commercially, and ecologically important species of sufficient accuracy and precision for both immediate resource management needs and long-term understanding of environmental influences on fishery resources. A second important product of this effort is the documentation and monitoring of habitat utilization …

Factors Affecting The Recruitment Of Riparian Vegetation On The Ord And Blackwood Rivers In Western Australia, Neil Pettit Jan 2000

Factors Affecting The Recruitment Of Riparian Vegetation On The Ord And Blackwood Rivers In Western Australia, Neil Pettit

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

This thesis provides baseline information on the ecological processes involved in the recruitment and regeneration of riparian vegetation. As there has been a paucity of basic ecological studies on riparian vegetation in Australia, the project is broad in scope, and gives a general picture of the factors influencing, the regeneration of riparian vegetation and provides a starting point for more detailed work. The project focuses on factors determining recruitment events and the life history traits of particular species in a river in the cool temperate zone of south western Australia (Blackwood River) and on a river in the dry tropics …

Nf00-425 Resistance Management For European Corn Borer And Bt Transgenic Corn: Refuge Design And Placement (Revised October 2002), Thomas E. Hunt, G.W. Echtenkamp Jan 2000

Nf00-425 Resistance Management For European Corn Borer And Bt Transgenic Corn: Refuge Design And Placement (Revised October 2002), Thomas E. Hunt, G.W. Echtenkamp

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

One of the key issues surrounding the use of Bt transgenic corn hybrids is resistance management. These corn hybrids have been engineered to produce a version of the insecticidal protein from the naturally occurring soil bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), that is toxic to European corn borers and a few other insects.

This NebFact discusses the important principles of resistance management for European corn borer and Bt corn and refuge considerations.

G00-1778 Field Windbreaks, James R. Brandle, Laurie Hodges Jan 2000

G00-1778 Field Windbreaks, James R. Brandle, Laurie Hodges

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

gricultural producers face many challenges as they try to balance efficient production systems with increasing environmental demands. For these systems to be successful, they must optimize the balance between inputs and final production. Field windbreaks are one way to increase yields while at the same time reducing inputs and improving both environmental quality and production efficiency. Windbreaks reduce wind speed and alter the microclimate in sheltered areas. Field windbreaks reduce wind erosion and the damage to crops caused by wind-blown soil. They improve water use efficiency, reduce risks associated with drought, and manage blowing snow.

Field windbreaks provide positive economic …
