Effect Of Host Condition On The Clover Root Borer, K. P. Pruess
Effect Of Host Condition On The Clover Root Borer, K. P. Pruess
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
Oviposition by the clover root borer, Hylastinus obscurus (Marsham), is completed earlier in weakened than in vigorous plants, but development is more rapid in vigorous or lightly infested roots. High populations occurring early in the season result in plant mortality with subsequently slowed borer development.

Acreage Reserve Participation In South Dakota Wheat Areas, Allan M. Severson
Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)
The Agricultural Act of 1956, which contains the Soil Bank Act, was enacted in the spring of 1956. The soil bank program is divided into two phases, the acreage reserve and the conservation reserve. The acreage reserve is available to farmers with acreage allotments for the basic commodities, which are wheat and corn in South Dakota. The farmer takes part in the acreage reserve program by signing a one-year agreement with his Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee (hereafter referred to as the ASC Committee) and reducing his acreage below the assigned allotment on his farm. In return for taking the …

A Bio-Assay And Histochemical Study Of Antidiuretic Hormone In Normal And Adrenalectomized Rats, Jean Kautz Lauber
Biology ETDs
The role of neurohypophyseal hormone vasopressin in water and electrolyte regulation has been of interest to both physiologists and clinicians. This interest has been stimulated recently by identification of the chemical structure and synthesis of this polypeptide hormone by duVigneaud and his co-workers, an accomplishment which won for duVigneaud the Nobel Prize in 1955.

Influence Of Seed Irradiation With X-Rays And Thermal Neutrons Upon Cell Size And Mitotic Activity In Root Tips Of Maize, Francis A. Haskins, Merwyn Davidson, Russell Beers
Influence Of Seed Irradiation With X-Rays And Thermal Neutrons Upon Cell Size And Mitotic Activity In Root Tips Of Maize, Francis A. Haskins, Merwyn Davidson, Russell Beers
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
In recent years a number of reports (for example, Caldecott et al., 1952, 1954, 1955; Schmidt and Frolik, 1951; Schwartz, 1954; Schwartz and Bay, 1956; Spencer and Cabanillas, 1956; Yagyu and Morris, 1957) have appeared which deal with the effects of treating seeds with various high energy radiations. In all cases it is reported that seedlings grown from appropriately-irradiated seeds are reduced in stature. This reduction in stature must necessarily result from irradiation-induced decreases in number and/or size of the cells comprising the seedlings. Although some quantitative data relating to irradiation-induced changes in cell size and mitotic activity are available …
