Sex Identification Of Mytilus Edulis Following 26 Day Treatment To Ee2 And Kz, Helen C. Poynton, K. Garrett Evensen
Sex Identification Of Mytilus Edulis Following 26 Day Treatment To Ee2 And Kz, Helen C. Poynton, K. Garrett Evensen
Data and Datasets
Blue mussel M. edulis were exposed for 26 days to 50 ng/L 17alpha-ethinylestradiol or 30 ug/L ketoconazole for 26 days in four replicate tanks. Prior to exposure, mussel sex was identified using the VERL-VCL RT-qPCR assay on hemolymph collected from each mussel. Following exposure, mantle tissue was collected from each treated mussel and the VERL-VCL RT-qPCR assay was used to identify the sex of the mussels.

Impact Of A Family History Of Hypertension And Physical Activity On Left Ventricular Mass, Evan L. Matthews, Kerry N. Callaghan, Peter A. Hosick, Michael S. Brian
Research Data
A positive family history of hypertension (FHH) (+FHH) is associated with elevated left ventricular mass (LVM). Regular physical activity (PA) may eliminate differences in LVM between +FHH and negative family history of hypertension (-FHH) adults. PURPOSE: To determine if a +FHH is associated with a greater LVM compared to a -FHH group within a sample of young, mostly active healthy adults with and without statistically controlling for PA. METHODS: Healthy young (18-32yrs) participants self-reported FHH status and habitual moderate and vigorous PA frequency. Participants then underwent an echocardiogram. RESULTS: Of the 61 participants, 32 (M=11, W=21; non-active=8) reported -FHH and …

- Metabolic costs associated with parasites should not be limited to established infections. Even during initial exposure to questing and attacking parasites, hosts can enact behavioural and physiological responses that could also incur metabolic costs. However, few studies have measured these costs directly. Hence, little is known about metabolic costs arising from parasite exposure.
- Further, no one has yet measured whether and how previous infection history modulates metabolic responses to parasite exposure.
- Here, using the California killifish (Fundulus parvipinnis) and its brain-infecting parasite (Euhaplorchis californiensis), we quantified how killifish metabolism, behaviour, and osmoregulatory phenotype changed upon acute …

The Effect Of Intensified Illuminance And Artificial Light At Night On Fitness And Susceptibility To Abiotic And Biotic Stressors, Grascen Shidemantle

Changing light conditions due to human activities represents an important emerging environmental concern. Although changes to natural light conditions can be independently detrimental, in nature, organisms commonly face multiple stressors. To understand the consequences of altered light conditions, we exposed a model amphibian (wood frog; Lithobates sylvaticus) to a control and two anthropogenic light conditions: intensified daytime illuminance and artificial light at night - ALAN (intensified daytime illuminance + extended photoperiod). We measured (1) metrics of fitness (hatching success as well as survival to, size at, and time to metamorphosis) (2) susceptibility (time to death) to a commonly cooccurring anthropogenic …

Tissue Expression Patterns Identify Mouse Cilia Genes, Timothy S. Mcclintock
Tissue Expression Patterns Identify Mouse Cilia Genes, Timothy S. Mcclintock
Physiology Research Data
A summary of 2,127 mouse genes linked to cilia by previous high-throughput approaches (reviewed in Inglis et al., 2006), published studies of individual gene products, or by McClintock et al. 2008. Each gene was viewed at Entrez Gene to verify and update the Gene ID and Gene Symbol. Each was also searched against PubMed (Gene Symbol AND (cili* OR flagel*)) for published evidence linking the mouse gene or putative orthologs to cilia or flagella. This searchable file lists identifying information about each gene, functional information about the encoded protein, the number of high-throughput studies linking the gene to cilia, and …

Mouse Osns Express 10,000 Genes, Timothy S. Mcclintock
Physiology Research Data
This Excel file (both full and compressed versions are available) contains processed GeneChip microarray data that allows predictions of whether a gene is expressed in mature olfactory sensory neurons of mice.

Genomics Of Mature And Immature Olfactory Sensory Neuron, Timothy S. Mcclintock
Physiology Research Data
The Excel file contains probabilistic predictions of which genes are expressed in mature versus immature olfactory sensory neurons, versus the sum of all other cell types in the olfactory epithelium. Responses to bulbectomy, which differentially affects mature and immature olfactory sensory neurons, supports these predictions.

Video codec performance (Excel spreadsheet). Movie was made in 2005-2006 when I worked at City of Hope National Medical Center. VTLF refers to Video Timelapse Light Facility. Videos were outputted from MetaMorph as AVI files. Personally, I always recommend uncompressed video files fro scientific uses. I also encourage posting the original scientific data format (ex. .lsm, .zvi, .lif, .stk).

Excel 2007 file with calculations for multicolor 3D-EasySTED segmented waveplates (SWP) for fluorescence nanoscopy.
Additional explanation in my Introduction statement and in the Excel file. The Excel file uses an interpolation function available from XlXtrFun (http://www.xlxtrfun.com/XlXtrFun/XlXtrFun.htm). My thanks to Goetz Zinner, www.B-Halle.de, for communicating to me that a single 3D-EasySTED segmented waveplate can be used with multiple excitation and depletion wavelengths.
Please give Goetz Zinner full credit for recognizing that STED segmented waveplate can be manufactured to handle multiple excitation and depletion wavelengths. Different sets of wavelengths can be generated by choosing appropriate thickness quartz substrates for manufacturing the SWP. …
