Evaluation Of Unm's Parental Leave Policy, Julia Fulghum, Karlyn A. Edwards, Charlie Christian, Steven Verney, Lisa A. Marchiondo, Teagan Mullins

Experiences with UNM’s parental leave policy C215 have been evaluated using the ADVANCE 2018 Main Campus Faculty Climate Survey, a series of junior faculty interviews, and concerns brought to the ADVANCE leadership. Key findings are:

• Women and STEM faculty are more hesitant to use family-leave policies, and perceive greater disadvantage in using them than men and non-STEM faculty
• Sharing of information about, and implementation of, parental leave varies significantly between units
• The attitude of the department chair and senior faculty strongly influence the experience of faculty who use parental leave

A Department of Justice investigation into alleged discrimination in Harvard’s race-conscious admissions policies remains ongoing. Harpalani believes the existence of this investigation supports Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA), which knows that the Trump Administration is sternly behind eliminating race-conscious admissions policies. He believes the real purpose of the investigation is to pressure other universities with race-conscious admissions policies to reduce or eliminate the use of race as an admissions factor.

An recent years, Negro patrons in several Arkansas school districts have appealed to the courts in efforts to get better educational facilities for their children, and the courts have ordered a substantially equal expenditure for the two races. Other suits of similar intent are now pending and still others are threatened.

From the foregoing it is apparent (1) that inequalities in educational facilities are not new in Arkansas and that the policies of the local school boards must be responsible; and (2) that the problem is centered in the local districts having mixed populations and that the disparity must be …
