Gender Discrimination And Statelessness In The Gulf Cooperation Council States, Betsy L. Fisher
Michigan Journal of Gender & Law
Using the Gulf Cooperation Council countries as a case study, this Article outlines the ways in which gender and birth status discrimination create new cases of statelessness. These occur when women are legally unable to convey their nationality to their children. This Article studies gender and birth status discrimination in nationality laws and in civil registration, family, and criminal law in each GCC state: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Ending statelessness will require these states to end discrimination against women and non-marital children in all of its forms in law and practice.

Wwiv: Who We’Re Fighting- And Why, R. James Woolsey
Richmond Journal of Global Law & Business
We witnessed three global wars in the past century. Only a decade ago we ended WWIII, also known as the Cold War. But a new enemy has been on the march and we have entered a dangerous but subtler conflict: World War IV. This is not only a war against terrorism but also a war for democracy and for freedom. The enemy we fight includes Islamist Shi'sm, the Ba'athists in Iraq, and the Islamist Sunni terrorist networks. The dangers we face arise from the combination of rogue states, terrorist networks and availability of Weapons of Mass Destruction. Mr. Woolsey says …

This article's two-pronged analysis has three distinct parts. Part I lays out the controversy of Article 51 interpretation as applied to the recent Gulf Crisis. Part II examines the legal guidance for interpreting the U.N. Charter, the Charter's travaux preparatoires, and specifically the work of the committees and subcommittees responsible for drafting and amending articles that fully incorporate the right of self-defense into the Charter. St. Mary's Law Journal
Oil, modern history’s most “powerful” natural economic resource stood at the epicenter of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and became the latest unconventional weapon of warfare. The objective of this Article is to assess the legal implications of this recent environmental warfare involving the “oil weapon,” the first of its kind in recorded history. The experiences from national and international wars demonstrate one sure victim of wars, even barring human losses, is the environment. The delicacy of mankind’s planetary ecosystem necessitates urgency addressed to protecting the environment in the international struggle for arms control and disarmament agreement. This Article indicates …
