Center For Manufacturing Excellence Capstone Project: Sec Rivals Checkers, Ward Winstead May 2022

Center For Manufacturing Excellence Capstone Project: Sec Rivals Checkers, Ward Winstead

Honors Theses

Each year, the seniors in the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence complete a capstone project. A team comprised of seniors in varying disciplines work to develop a business model focused on producing a specific product. This team, SEC Rivals Checkers, chose to produce wooden checker boards where each half of a board is custom to a specific SEC school. These halves were designed to be interchangeable, so a variety of different combination could be created when utilizing the product. Through initial marketing analysis, cost estimation, prototyping, and process development, the original SEC Rivals Checkers idea was developed into a …

An Investigation Of The Impact Of Requirements Engineering Skills On Project Success, Cynthia Atkins May 2013

An Investigation Of The Impact Of Requirements Engineering Skills On Project Success, Cynthia Atkins

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A survey of project managers and requirements engineers was conducted to determine what skills, qualifications, and experiences were associated with project success. Survey results indicated that projects using Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions, use cases, and prototypes to engineer requirements were most successful. Other indicators of project success, according to participants, included an adequate allotment of time for requirements engineering—at least 15% of a project's time—and the use of project managers and requirements engineers with professional work experience. In particular, data indicated that Project Managers with at least five years of experience in Information Technology resulted in more successful projects.

Rubric For Project Self-Evaluation, Paul Savory Jan 2009

Rubric For Project Self-Evaluation, Paul Savory

Industrial and Management Systems Engineering: Instructional Materials

I have developed this rubric to allow each member of a project team to offer a self-assessment of their own performance on the projects. It is my attempt to develop a standardized evaluation linked to specified criteria, making the grading process simpler and more transparent.

Rubric For Project Report Evaluation, Paul Savory Jan 2009

Rubric For Project Report Evaluation, Paul Savory

Industrial and Management Systems Engineering: Instructional Materials

I have developed this rubric to formalize the evaluation or assessment of a project report. It is my attempt to develop a standardized evaluation linked to specified criteria, making the grading process simpler and more transparent.

Ruberic For Project Team Member Evaluation, Paul Savory Jan 2009

Ruberic For Project Team Member Evaluation, Paul Savory

Industrial and Management Systems Engineering: Instructional Materials

I have developed this rubric to allow team members for course projects to offer an evaluation or assessment of the fellow members of their team. It is my attempt to develop a standardized evaluation linked to specified criteria, making the grading process simpler and more transparent.

Writing Research Proposal: Literature Review And Database Search, Mamoudou H. Dicko Prof. May 2008

Writing Research Proposal: Literature Review And Database Search, Mamoudou H. Dicko Prof.

Pr. Mamoudou H. DICKO, PhD

The maiden proposed research project should demonstrate that the present study will add a significant knowledge on the subject. The main objective of the literature research is to allow that the statement of the research need will clearly establish the objective of the new study.

Discovering Software Reliability Patterns Based On Multiple Software Projects, Yi Liu, Gerald Adkins, Jeng-Foung Yao, Gita Williams Jan 2007

Discovering Software Reliability Patterns Based On Multiple Software Projects, Yi Liu, Gerald Adkins, Jeng-Foung Yao, Gita Williams

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Discovering patterns that indicate software reliability provides valuable information to software project managers. Software Quality Classification (SQC) modeling is a methodology that can be used to discover reliability patterns of large software projects. However, the patterns found by SQC modeling may not be accurate and robust owing to insufficient information used in the training process. This study compares two genetic programming-based SQC models using different volumes of data. These data were extracted from seven different NASA software projects. The results demonstrate that combining data from different projects can produce more accurate and reliable patterns.

Project Management Practices In The Information Technology Departments Of Various Size Institutions Of Higher Education, Charles R. Johnston, David C. Wierschem Jan 2007

Project Management Practices In The Information Technology Departments Of Various Size Institutions Of Higher Education, Charles R. Johnston, David C. Wierschem

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

The demand for information technology at institutions of higher education is increasing at a rapid pace. It is fueled by student, faculty, and administrative needs. This paper examines project management practices at these institutions with respect to the sizes of the institutions. Survey results indicate an emphasis on operational concerns at small and medium size institutions when selecting IT projects. The prominence of the role of project manager and adoption of formal PM tools/techniques by IT departments generally increase with the sizes of the institutions. The importance of having a project plan is recognized by all sizes of institutions of …

The Impacts Of Conflicts On Requirements Uncertainty And Project Performance, Houn-Gee Chen, James J. Jiang, Jun-Cheng Chen, J T. Shim Jan 2004

The Impacts Of Conflicts On Requirements Uncertainty And Project Performance, Houn-Gee Chen, James J. Jiang, Jun-Cheng Chen, J T. Shim

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Conflict is a pervasive phenomenon that permeates information systems development and implementation. The literature has indicated that conflicts, due to their association with negative emotion, will negatively influence IS project development, even after controlling for the effects of conflict management and resolution; however, the negative emotional characteristic of conflict alone has a limited explanatory power of IS project success. The purpose of this study is to provide additional insight, by including requirement uncertainty as the mediator variable, of the impacts of conflicts on project performance. Surveys were sent to Taiwan’s top 1600 companies and the results support the hypotheses. The …

Examining The Benefits Of Project Management Professional (Pmp) Certification For Is Project Managers And Organizations, Robert C. Mahaney, Bertie M. Greer Jan 2004

Examining The Benefits Of Project Management Professional (Pmp) Certification For Is Project Managers And Organizations, Robert C. Mahaney, Bertie M. Greer

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

The project management professional (PMP) certification has gained a positive reputation among project managers as well as with HR managers and recruiters. However, the organizational benefits are untested. This paper examines the business value of PMP certification. The three questions this study investigates are, “What value does certification give project managers?” “What value does certification give organizations?” and “How can organizations encourage project managers to pursue certification?” Content analysis of transcripts from twenty-five structured interviews identified several reasons businesses should encourage their project managers to pursue PMP certification, but many of the benefits are not easily quantified.

This will entail coming up with an idea, exploring the marketability of the idea, and developing preliminary plans for the business.

An Integrated Engineering-Computation Framework For Collaborative Engineering: An Application In Project Management, Hisham Mohamed El-Sayed Abdelsalam Apr 2000

An Integrated Engineering-Computation Framework For Collaborative Engineering: An Application In Project Management, Hisham Mohamed El-Sayed Abdelsalam

Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Theses & Dissertations

Today's engineering applications suffer from a severe integration problem. Engineering, the entire process, consists of a myriad of individual, often complex, tasks. Most computer tools support particular tasks in engineering, but the output of one tool is different from the others'. Thus, the users must re-enter the relevant information in the format required by another tool. Moreover, usually in the development process of a new product/process, several teams of engineers with different backgrounds/responsibilities are involved, for example mechanical engineers, cost estimators, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, and project manager. Engineers need a tool(s) to share technical and managerial information and to …
