Decision Making Within An Nfl Context Using Multiple Objective Decision Analysis, Lawson Porter
Decision Making Within An Nfl Context Using Multiple Objective Decision Analysis, Lawson Porter
Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
The National Football League (NFL) is the most popular sports league in the world, with millions of viewers every game and billions of dollars generated every season. Statistics are an important part of an NFL team’s business operating model and contribute greatly towards their decision making. Every season, general managers try to sign players that give the team the highest probability of winning games throughout the year. There are many factors that go into this decision, including the amount of money the team has to spend and the value that available players can bring to a team. Teams must abide …
Demonstrating Set-Based Design Techniques- A Uav Case Study, Colin Small
Demonstrating Set-Based Design Techniques- A Uav Case Study, Colin Small
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The Department of Defense (DoD) and Engineered Resilient Systems (ERS) community seek to improve decision making in the Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) process by incorporating resilience and leveraging the capabilities of model-based engineering (MBE) early in the design process. Traditional tradespace exploration utilizing Point-Based Design (PBD) often converges quickly on a solution with subsequent engineering changes to modify the design. However, this process can lead to a suboptimal solution if an incorrect initial solution is chosen. Enabled by MBE, Set-Based Design (SBD) considers sets of all possible solutions and enables down-selecting possibilities to converge on a final solution. Using a …
Decision Support System For Container Port Selection Using Multiple-Objective Decision Analysis, Rivelino De Icaza
Decision Support System For Container Port Selection Using Multiple-Objective Decision Analysis, Rivelino De Icaza
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Ports are essential for maritime transportation and global supply chains since they are nodes that connect the sea- and land-based modes of transportation. With containerization and supply chains stimulating global trade, ports are challenged to adjust to changes in the market to create value to their customers. Therefore, this dissertation research focuses on the container port selection decision analysis to provide information to help shipping lines select the best port for their shipping networks. Since the problem is complex, dynamic, and involves multiple and conflicting criteria, the research proposes to use the multi-objective decision analysis with Value-Focused Thinking approach. The …
Product Development Resilience Through Set-Based Design, Stephen H. Rapp
Product Development Resilience Through Set-Based Design, Stephen H. Rapp
Wayne State University Dissertations
Often during a system Product Development program external factors or requirements change, forcing system design change. This uncertainty adversely affects program outcome, adding to development time and cost, production cost, and compromise to system performance. We present a development approach that minimizes the impacts, by considering the possibility of changes in the external factors and the implications of mid-course design changes. The approach considers the set of alternative designs and the burdens of a mid-course change from one design to another in determining the relative value of a specific design. The approach considers and plans parallel development of alternative designs …
Using Mavt To Incorporate Public Perception When Choosing A Nuclear Fuel Cycle, Stephen Clement
Using Mavt To Incorporate Public Perception When Choosing A Nuclear Fuel Cycle, Stephen Clement
Theses and Dissertations
Nuclear energy is a source of carbon free power. With many countries striving to make deep carbon cuts in their energy sectors, nuclear energy could be a large part of the solution. One of the main obstacles standing in the way of the use of nuclear energy is the issue of used nuclear fuel disposal. According to the NEI, the U.S. creates about 2000 metric tons of used nuclear fuel per year and has generated around 76,000 metric tons of used nuclear fuel over the last 4 decades. While there are technical problems that need to be solved, it is …

Optimizing The Level Of Customization For Products In Mass Customization Systems, Sami Spahi
Optimizing The Level Of Customization For Products In Mass Customization Systems, Sami Spahi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Mass customization (MC) was developed to capitalize on the combined benefits of economies of scale and economies of scope. Balancing the tradeoffs involved in an MC system warrants the determination of the degree or the extent of customization. Most of the literature views the degree of customization as how early or how far the customer is integrated in the production cycle, which is defined as the order decoupling point. In this study we are addressing the degree of customization from a product structural perspective. There are two objectives in this research. The first is to develop a unit of measurement …
