Ejm Chain Fall Tooling Optimization, Migual Medina, Esraa Abdulmahdi, James Algarin Apr 2018

Ejm Chain Fall Tooling Optimization, Migual Medina, Esraa Abdulmahdi, James Algarin

Senior Design Project For Engineers

The following report describes the progress made by the EJM Chain Fall Tooling Optimization Team since the In-Progress Review. The team has finalized the facility layout design for the chain fall area including the concept of operations, functional requirements, and performance specifications. The scope of the project is completing the new procedures for reducing waste and completing the AutoCAD drawing of the final design. The team researched the objectives accomplished by the new layout design. The goal of the project is to reduce the safety hazards and increase productivity. The team shifted the focus to the salvage, recycling, and waste …

Continuous Decision Support, Jeremy P. Hendrix Dec 2015

Continuous Decision Support, Jeremy P. Hendrix

Theses and Dissertations

Organizations are often faced with portfolio construction efforts that require them to select one or more alternatives, subject to resource constraints, with the aim of achieving the maximum value possible. This is a well-defined problem with a number of analytically defensible approaches, provided the entire set of alternatives is known when the decision event takes place. Less well treated in the literature is how to approach this problem when the entire set of alternatives is unknown, as when the alternatives arrive over time. This change in the availability of data shifts the problem from one of identifying an optimal subset …

Delayed-Bang Approach Towards More Sustainable Critical Infrastructure Risk Management, C. Ariel Pinto, Michael K. Mcshane, Abhishek S. Pathak Jan 2011

Delayed-Bang Approach Towards More Sustainable Critical Infrastructure Risk Management, C. Ariel Pinto, Michael K. Mcshane, Abhishek S. Pathak

Finance Faculty Publications

This article describes the Delayed Bang Approach for determining the value of risk management alternatives in critical infrastructure security. The discussion includes (1) the need for sustainable risk management (2) the importance of time valuation in evaluating competing loss prevention and loss reduction alternatives, (3) the convergence of deterministic engineering economics, survivability analysis, and probabilistic analysis, and (4) hypothetical examples of the Delayed-Bang Approach and significance towards more sustainable risk management.

Evaluation Of A Tactile Navigation Cueing System And Real-Time Assessment Of Cognitive State, Michael C. Dorneich, Patricia May Ververs, Stephen D. Whitlow, Santosh Mathan Jan 2006

Evaluation Of A Tactile Navigation Cueing System And Real-Time Assessment Of Cognitive State, Michael C. Dorneich, Patricia May Ververs, Stephen D. Whitlow, Santosh Mathan

Michael C. Dorneich

This paper details an evaluation of a tactile cueing system that was created to enhance the navigation of a complex route. The complexity of the task along with simultaneously challenging cognitive tasks also enabled the real-time assessment of cognitive state in various task load conditions. Honeywell has been working with the US Army's Future Force Warrior program to develop adaptive systems that will effectively manage the available cognitive resources used for information processing by the dismounted Soldier in highly dynamic, information rich environments. The appropriate allocation of cognitive resources is key to managing multiple tasks, focusing on the most important …

A Matter Of Priorities: Effects Of Increased Opportunities For Extracurricular And Non-Traditional Learning Experiences On Student Time Management And Attitudes, David Spurlock, Daniel J. Bailey, Susan L. Murray, Andrew S. Ricke Jun 2005

A Matter Of Priorities: Effects Of Increased Opportunities For Extracurricular And Non-Traditional Learning Experiences On Student Time Management And Attitudes, David Spurlock, Daniel J. Bailey, Susan L. Murray, Andrew S. Ricke

Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Many schools are emphasizing non-traditional and extracurricular learning experiences for undergraduate engineering students. These include activities such as incorporating servicelearning projects into the classroom, involving students in design competitions (e.g., solar car, formula car races), and promoting involvement in traditional campus organizations. Often this emphasis is in response to changes in ABET requirements, desires of future employers, and needs to improve student retention. What are the effects of emphasizing these sorts of activities on student attitudes and time management decisions? We examine the influences on students' priorities for allocating their time and their perceptions of the relative importance of available …

Development Of A System To Determine The Economically Optimal Combination Of Housing For An Air Force Installation, Johnathan E. Hendrix Dec 1997

Development Of A System To Determine The Economically Optimal Combination Of Housing For An Air Force Installation, Johnathan E. Hendrix

Theses and Dissertations

The United States Military is faced with the decision of how to house its military members and their families. The three options available to house these families are: 1) utilize existing on-base housing; 2) build new on-base housing; or, 3) compensate a military family monetarily to find housing off-base. This research focused on the development of a tool to all the decision maker in determining what combination of the three options is economically optimal for an individual Air Force Installation. The model developed incorporates the costs associated to the local area and conditions at the specific installation to determine the …
