This research studies metal-fused filament fabrication (MF3) for manufacturing aluminum alloy parts. An aluminum alloy powder-based feedstock with a polymer-binder system was extruded via capillary rheometry to form a filament. The filament was used to print green parts that were involved in a two-step debinding process combining solvent and thermal extraction of the polymer binder, then sintered in a partial vacuum. This study demonstrated the effects of changing the sizing agent parameter during the preparation of carbon fibers on the mechanical properties of composite made with acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) as the matrix material and carbon fibers as the fiber material. Three types of sizing agents produced by Allnex were used to coat three different batches of carbon fibers that were mixed with a torque rheometer and extruded with a barrel-style melt extruder into continuous spools of 1.75 mm filament for use with commercial 3D printers. The internal flow of a high-pressure diesel injector is simulated numerically to investigate the complex transient flow structures and the unsteady forces imparted to the injector needle that result from the asymmetric flow fields developed during operation. The gas-liquid two phase flow is simulated using a mixture model with the cavitation numerically modeled using the Zwart-Gerber-Belamri model. In this thesis, we employ a combination of density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations to identify the effect of chemical doping on (a) thermodynamic phase stability, and (b) Na-ion conduction in Na3SbS4 (NSS) solid-state electrolytes. We found that (a) Se doped electrolytes, namely, Na3SbSexS4-x undergo a tetragonal-to-cubic structural phase transition at x > 3 (Se-rich), and (b) the size, valence, and electronegativity of chemical dopants that substitute Na in Na3SbS4 have a cumulative profound impact on Na-ion conductivity. Colloids are suspensions of two or more phases and have been topics of research for advanced, tunable materials for decades. Stabilization of colloids is typically attributed to thermodynamic mechanisms; however, recent studies have identified transport or entropic mechanisms that can potentially stabilize a thermodynamically unstable colloidal system. In this study, suspensions of silsesquioxane microparticles and zirconia nanoparticles were dispersed in a nitric acid solution and allowed to aggregate for 8-12 days in microgravity aboard the International Space Station. The relationship between varying contour settings and part geometry provides insight into the attainable surface roughness and dimensional accuracy of parts fabricated in 17-4 stainless steel via selective laser melting (SLM). Varying the contour settings of laser power (W), scan speed (mm/s), and beam offset (mm) for unsupported inclined bars. The utilization of a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and surface profilometer quantified the dimensional accuracy and average surface roughness (Ra) for upface, downface, and topface surfaces.
