Aeroponic System Optimization For Butterhead Lettuce Growth And Future Sustainability Using Flow Blurring Atomization, Taylor J. Johnson
Aeroponic System Optimization For Butterhead Lettuce Growth And Future Sustainability Using Flow Blurring Atomization, Taylor J. Johnson
Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses
The global population has grown by 6 billion people over the last century and is trending toward 9.7 billion people by the year 2050. Agriculture accounts for 70% of global fresh water usage. Technology must be developed to accommodate the increase of food production demanded by the growing global population and the subsequent increase in water usage. Aeroponic technology is a water-efficient vertical farming technology that can reduce water usage by 90% by suspending plant roots in air within a controlled chamber and supplying atomized droplets of a water-nutrient solution directly to the roots.
This study simultaneously tests six droplet …
Modeling, Control, And Hardware Development Of A Thrust-Vector Coaxial Uav, Andrew North
Modeling, Control, And Hardware Development Of A Thrust-Vector Coaxial Uav, Andrew North
Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses
This thesis introduces a unique thrust vector coaxial unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) configuration and presents a comprehensive investigation encompassing dynamics modeling, hardware design, and controller development. Using the Newton-Euler method, a dynamic model for the UAV is derived to gain in-depth insights into its fundamental flight characteristics. A simple thrust model is formulated and modified by comparing it with data obtained from vehicle testing. The feasibility of manufacturing such a vehicle is assessed through the development of a hardware prototype. Finally, a linear state feedback controller is designed and evaluated using the non-linear dynamics model. The results demonstrate successful validation …
Laser Machining And Related Control For Additive Manufacturing, Eduardo Antonio Rojas, Susan Davis Allen
Laser Machining And Related Control For Additive Manufacturing, Eduardo Antonio Rojas, Susan Davis Allen
Publications
Additive manufacturing can include use of a laser-machining technique. Laser machining can be used to form cavities, trenches, or other features in an additively-manufactured structure. Spectroscopy can be performed to monitor a laser machining operation. For example, a laser-enhanced additive manufacturing process flow can include depositing a conductive layer on a surface of a dielectric layer, and conductively isolating a first region from a second region of the conductive layer using ablative optical energy, including applying ablative optical energy to the conductive layer, monitoring a spectrum of an ablative plume generated by applying the ablative optical energy, and controlling the …
7-Dof Robotic Arm Xy-Plane Translational Stability, Christopher Dean Alkire
7-Dof Robotic Arm Xy-Plane Translational Stability, Christopher Dean Alkire
Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses
Robotic arms are traditionally mounted to rigid structures as they perform tasks. As a result, the arm’s movement would not affect the position of its mount and its operational space that it is performing a task within would remain constant. If a robotic arm were to function in orbit, the motion of the arm would cause it to rotate and translate about its center of mass, which changes as the joints of the arm rotate.
The purpose of this thesis is to focus on the two-dimensional translational effects of an arm operating on a simulated zero-friction surface and provide a …
Computational Study Of Flow Interactions Over A Close Coupled Canard-Wing On Fighter, Setyawan Bekti Wibowo, Sutrisno Sutrisno, Tri Agung Rohmat
Computational Study Of Flow Interactions Over A Close Coupled Canard-Wing On Fighter, Setyawan Bekti Wibowo, Sutrisno Sutrisno, Tri Agung Rohmat
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
There have been many attempts to improve the flying performance of a fighter. By modifying the flow that occurs along the fuselage is expected to improve the performance of the aircraft. One of the indicators of combat aircraft performance is the ability to perform maneuver movement. Adding a canard as forewing on the fighter wing configuration is considered capable of raising the ability in maneuver movement. The use of canard-delta pairs will affect the performance and aerodynamic characteristics of the plane. Wings and canards with delta configuration will make the rolled-up vortex as a lifting force producer on the aircraft. …
Manufacturing Process Simulation – On Its Way To Industrial Application, Dennis Otten, Tobias A. Weber, Jan-Christoph Arent
Manufacturing Process Simulation – On Its Way To Industrial Application, Dennis Otten, Tobias A. Weber, Jan-Christoph Arent
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
Manufacturing process simulation (MPS) has become more and more important for aviation and the automobile industry. A highly competitive market requires the use of high performance metals and composite materials in combination with reduced manufacturing cost and time as well as a minimization of the time to market for a new product. However, the use of such materials is expensive and requires sophisticated manufacturing processes. An experience based process and tooling design followed by a lengthy trial-and-error optimization is just not contemporary anymore. Instead, a tooling design process aided by simulation is used more often. This paper provides an overview …

The Engineering Process For The Design Of A Motorcycle Chassis And Suspension, Derek J. Noce
The Engineering Process For The Design Of A Motorcycle Chassis And Suspension, Derek J. Noce
Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses
The thesis objective is to define and establish an engineering process for the design of a modern motorcycle chassis and suspension. The engineering process focuses on the interdisciplinary fields of engineering dealing with design and structural optimization. Specialized software, such as Motorcycle Kinematics, MATLAB, CATIA, HEEDS Professional, and NASTRAN are utilized. Motorcycle Kinematics is used to set up the preliminary motorcycle geometry, and MATLAB is a used to analyze the kinematics and stability of the motorcycle based on this geometry. CATIA (Computer Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive Application) is used to graphically illustrate the geometry of the motorcycle in three dimensional space. …

Experimental Validation Of Finite Element Analysis Software Applied To The Design Of A Motorcycle Swingarm, Bret Schaller
Master's Theses - Daytona Beach
This thesis documents the experimental validation of finite element analysis software applied to the design of a motorcycle swingarm. The process includes design and implementation of an onboard data acquisition system; definition and measurement of operational loads; laboratory correlation of loads; experimental validation of Pro/Mechanica finite element analysis software; design and prototype development of a single-sided motorcycle swingarm; and computer modeling using the Pro/Engineer solid modeling package.
