Experimental And Simulation Study Of Reactive Silver Ink Droplet Evaporation, Weipeng Zhang Oct 2023

Experimental And Simulation Study Of Reactive Silver Ink Droplet Evaporation, Weipeng Zhang

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The evaporation of particle-free silver ink droplets on heated substrates directly impacts the morphology of the resultant silver particles and films. In this thesis, COMSOL Multiphysics simulations of the solvent (water-ethylene glycol mixture) droplet evaporation process are used to explain the microflows, mass transfers, and heat distribution responsible for the experimental observations. The reactive ink incorporates fluoro-surfactant FS-31 and poly (acrylamide) (PAM) to suppress the coffee-ring effect that negatively impacts the electrical conductivity. Experiments show that the droplet evaporation process results in varied silver particle morphology, depending on the locations within the droplet, leading to uneven surfaces. Large particles (3 …

Rational Interface Design For High-Performance All-Solid-State Lithium Batteries, Changhong Wang Jan 2020

Rational Interface Design For High-Performance All-Solid-State Lithium Batteries, Changhong Wang

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

All-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs) have gained substantial attention owing to their excellent safety and high energy density. However, the development of ASSLBs has been hindered by large interfacial resistance originating from the detrimental interfacial reactions, poor solid-solid contact, and lithium dendrite growth. The research in this thesis aims at achieving high-performance ASSLBs via rational interface design and understanding the interfacial reaction mechanisms.

At the cathode interface, an ideal dual core-shell nanostructure was first designed. Moreover, single-crystal LiNi0.5Mn0.3Co0.2O2 (SC-NMC532) cathode was compared with polycrystalline NMC532, the former exhibits much enhanced Li+ diffusion kinetics …

Enhanced Carbon Fiber-Epoxy Composites For Rowing Racing Shells, Rayehe Samimi Jul 2019

Enhanced Carbon Fiber-Epoxy Composites For Rowing Racing Shells, Rayehe Samimi

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

This thesis investigates the thermomechanical properties of two commercial composites using carbon fiber reinforcement in epoxy resins for manufacturing marine based rowing racing shells. The main goal of this project was to investigate how to control the resin properties and curing temperatures to improve the final product properties including adhesion, toughness modulus and tensile strength. Moreover, an efficient curing process was required by our supporting company to be used at low temperatures to enhance the curing characteristics and to provide improved mechanical properties. Accordingly, the current research tries to improve the manufacturing curing process and build up high performance structure …

Fabrication And Characterization Of Hybrid Nanocomposites By Matrix Assisted Pulsed Laser Evaporation, Songlin Yang Aug 2017

Fabrication And Characterization Of Hybrid Nanocomposites By Matrix Assisted Pulsed Laser Evaporation, Songlin Yang

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Different methods have been applied to deposit hybrid nanocomposites which can be applied in various fields due to their light weight and multifunctional properties. Here, matrix assisted pulsed laser evaporation (MAPLE) equipment with 532 nm Nd:YAG laser is applied to fabricate three types of hybrid nanocomposites on different substrates.

Chemical synthesized FeCo nanoparticles were deposited on graphene sheets by MAPLE technique (laser fluence: 300 mJ/cm2). The effects of deposition time (t) on particle amount, shape and size have been investigated. Yttrium barium copper oxide (YBCO) materials are one type of high-temperature superconductive materials and …

Application Of Treated Oil Sands Drill Cuttings Waste In Micropiles Construction, Moustafa Ahmed Raafat Mohamed Aboutabikh Jan 2016

Application Of Treated Oil Sands Drill Cuttings Waste In Micropiles Construction, Moustafa Ahmed Raafat Mohamed Aboutabikh

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

A micropile is constructed by drilling a hole, placing a steel reinforcing element, grouting it using neat cement. However, cement production consumes energy and generates carbon dioxide. Implementing waste materials in construction applications represents a sustainable solution for many waste management problems. On the other hand, oil sands drill cuttings waste represents one of the most difficult challenges for the oil sands mining sector. Reducing the amount oil sands drill cutting waste sent to landfill offers one of the best solutions for waste management. This thesis presents an innovative solution for application of treated oil sands waste (TOSW) in grout …

Surfactant Assisted Dispersion Of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes In Polyvinylpyrrolidone Solutions, Tennison Yu Aug 2014

Surfactant Assisted Dispersion Of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes In Polyvinylpyrrolidone Solutions, Tennison Yu

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Obtaining stable aqueous dispersions is one of the main challenges hindering a widespread and effective use of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) in many applications. Although it has been recognized that their versatility makes them an extremely attractive material, the unique molecular structure that gives SWNTs their unmatched electronic, mechanical, and thermal properties is also responsible for strong van der Waals interactions. This, combined with extremely high aspect ratios and flexibility, causes SWNTs to adhere strongly into tightly bundled ropes. In these bundles, SWNTs are not as useful as their linearized unbundled equivalents. Thus, in order to take advantage of their …
