Pattern And Polarization Diversity Multisector Annular Antenna For Iot Applications, Abel Zandamela, Nicola Marchetti, Max Ammann, Adam Narbudowicz Jan 2023

Pattern And Polarization Diversity Multisector Annular Antenna For Iot Applications, Abel Zandamela, Nicola Marchetti, Max Ammann, Adam Narbudowicz

Articles

This work proposes a small pattern and polarization diversity multisector annular antenna with electrical size and profile of ka = 1.2 and 0.018λ, respectively. The antenna is planar and comprises annular sectors that are fed using different ports to enable digital beamforming techniques, with efficiency and gain of up to 78% and 4.62 dBi, respectively. The cavity model analysis is used to describe the design concept and the antenna diversity. The proposed method can produce different polarization states (e.g., linearly and circularly polarized patterns) and pattern diversity characteristics covering the elevation plane. Owing to its small electrical size, low-profile and …

Cross-Mixing Hybrid Beamforming Receiver For Wideband Apertures, Rimon Hokayem Jun 2021

Cross-Mixing Hybrid Beamforming Receiver For Wideband Apertures, Rimon Hokayem

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Research is showing an interest in redefining phased arrays and devising more flexible low-profile receivers. As such, there is a need to compensate for the bulkiness of existing systems which is mainly imposed by the phase shifters placed after each element. That is, we must circumvent hardware limitations by searching for alternatives for phase shifting the signals to introduce more flexibility in signal reception for more downsized radio systems. Therefore, self-mixing arrays are developed and now deployed for the beamforming process. The concept stems from applying mixing instead of shifting to eliminate the delays in reception. Central to its realization …

The Utilization Of Software Defined Radios For Adaptive, Phased Array Antenna Systems, Evan Fennelly Jan 2020

The Utilization Of Software Defined Radios For Adaptive, Phased Array Antenna Systems, Evan Fennelly

Graduate College Dissertations and Theses

The increased use of internet of things (IoT) devices will result in them being deployed

in a wide variety of environments and therefore warrant antenna systems that can be

adapted to improve link performance. Flexible communication technologies allow for

increased throughput, reliability, and improved efficiency in wireless channels. This

can be accomplished by implementing phased array antennas, among others. Phased

arrays create a beam that can be steered electronically, but are expensive to implement

given the many phase precise hardware components that need to be adjustable. A

software defined radio approach to beamforming can reduce this complexity for each

array …

Software Defined Radio For Hybrid Beamforming Applications, Jianyet Lee Jan 2019

Software Defined Radio For Hybrid Beamforming Applications, Jianyet Lee

Dissertations and Theses

Beamforming techniques have been deployed in both licensed networks such as LTE network and unlicensed network such as IEEE802.11ac WiFi. The scope of work for this thesis is to leverage the benefits of beamforming techniques and software defined radio platform in developing a fully functioning LTE testbed. The testbed can be further developed to specific application for drone-to-drone or D2D communication independent of intervention from base stations. Applying beamforming techniques to devices such as drones can solve poor quality signal detection at the receivers due to the interference signals generated by other devices in the attempt to communicate with the …

Cmos Programmable Time Control Circuit Design For Phased Array Uwb Ground Penetrating Radar Antenna Beamforming, Nicholas James Reilly Jan 2017

Cmos Programmable Time Control Circuit Design For Phased Array Uwb Ground Penetrating Radar Antenna Beamforming, Nicholas James Reilly

Graduate College Dissertations and Theses

Phased array radar systems employ multiple antennas to create a radar beam that can be steered electronically. By manipulating the relative phase values of feeding signals among different antennas, the effective radiation pattern of the array can be synthesized to enhance the main lobe in a desired direction while suppressing the undesired side lobes in other directions. Hence the radar scanning angles can be electronically controlled without employing the bulky mechanical gimbal structure, which can significantly reduce radar system size, weight and power consumption. In recent years, phased array technologies have received great attentions and are explored in developing many …

Novel Complex Adaptive Signal Processing Techniques Employing Optimally Derived Time-Varying Convergence Factors With Applicatio, Raghuram Ranganathan Jan 2008

Novel Complex Adaptive Signal Processing Techniques Employing Optimally Derived Time-Varying Convergence Factors With Applicatio, Raghuram Ranganathan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In digital signal processing in general, and wireless communications in particular, the increased usage of complex signal representations, and spectrally efficient complex modulation schemes such as QPSK and QAM has necessitated the need for efficient and fast-converging complex digital signal processing techniques. In this research, novel complex adaptive digital signal processing techniques are presented, which derive optimal convergence factors or step sizes for adjusting the adaptive system coefficients at each iteration. In addition, the real and imaginary components of the complex signal and complex adaptive filter coefficients are treated as separate entities, and are independently updated. As a result, the …
