Surface Treatments' Effects On The Capacitor's Dielectric Performance Under Electro-Thermal Stresses, Haider. M. Umran, Feipeng Wang

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

Biaxial-oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films are characterized by unfavorable aging behavior because of their poor susceptibility to high temperatures, humidity, and high electric fields. This makes them unqualified to withstand harsh operating conditions, such as in capacitor applications. This study investigates the impact of annealing BOPP samples at 100 °C for five hours after fluorination at different times (15, 30, and 60 minutes) on their electrical and mechanical performance under electro-thermal stresses. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images confirm that there is an increase in surface roughness and the formation of a dense layer of fluorine-containing groups monotonically with fluorination time. So, …

A New Method To Start Loaded Induction Motors, Omar El-Sayed Mohammed Youssef Mar 2024

A New Method To Start Loaded Induction Motors, Omar El-Sayed Mohammed Youssef

Journal of Engineering Research

Three-phase induction motors have a widespread use in industry, and starting of loaded induction motors is an important matter. However, there are few studies on motor starting using variable-frequency drives (VFDs). The existing control schemes, described by these studies, have disadvantages such as dependence on derived characteristics, adjustment of settings, design of controllers, or burden of calculations on the control processor. In this paper, a simple and effective control scheme of VFDs to start loaded motors is proposed. In this scheme, there is no dependence on any characteristic, adjustment of settings, controllers, and rotor speed sensor. By this scheme, the …

Power Amplifier Based On Composite Injection-Voltaic Transistors, Nodira Batirdjanovna Alimova

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

The problem of high-current radio engineering devices is related to the fact that the use of high-power transistors and other semiconductor devices is limited by such a phenomenon as a secondary breakdown, in which there is a sharp decrease in the voltage on the device with simultaneous internal current lacing, and the device fails. To solve the problem of secondary breakdown, schemes have been proposed that operate stably at reverse voltage values 4-5 times higher than usual and at power dissipation 2-3 times higher than the maximum allowable power for an individual device. The problem is proposed to be solved …

Analysis And Design Of A Fully Soft Switched Two-Level Dc-Dc Boost Converter For Electric Vehicle Applications, Amin Mirzaei, Mahdi Rezvanyvardom, Ehsan Najafi

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

In this paper, a fully soft switched two-level DC-DC Boost converter is proposed. The converter is used only one auxiliary cell to create the soft switching conditions for all semiconductor devices. The auxiliary cell contains one auxiliary switch, one resonant capacitor, one resonant inductor and one auxiliary diode. The auxiliary switch creates the soft switching conditions by control of resonant elements. Besides, the auxiliary cell is not located in the main power path and cannot decrease the converter efficiency. It has simple operation modes. Besides, the proposed soft-switched converter is highly efficient while the control circuit is simple and remains …

Design Of Dc-Link Vscf Ac Electrical Power System For The Embraer 190/195 Aircraft, Eduardo Francis Carvalho Freitas, Nihad E. Daidzic Sep 2017

Design Of Dc-Link Vscf Ac Electrical Power System For The Embraer 190/195 Aircraft, Eduardo Francis Carvalho Freitas, Nihad E. Daidzic

Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering

A proposed novel DC-Link VSCF AC-DC-AC electrical power system converter for Embraer 190/195 transport category airplane is presented. The proposed converter could replace the existing conventional system based on the CSCF IDGs. Several contemporary production airplanes already have VSCF as a major or backup source of electrical power. Problems existed with the older VSCF systems in the past; however, the switched power electronics and digital controllers have matured and can be now, in our opinion, safely integrated and replace existing constant-speed hydraulic transmissions powering CSCF AC generators. IGBT power transistors for medium-level power conversion and relatively fast efficient switching are …

Loss Model For Gallium Nitride Dc-Dc Buck Converter, Rushi P. Patel Jun 2017

Loss Model For Gallium Nitride Dc-Dc Buck Converter, Rushi P. Patel

Pursuit - The Journal of Undergraduate Research at The University of Tennessee

In recent years, more research has been done on Enhancement Mode Gallium Nitride (eGaN) converters, as the world is moving towards more power efficient converters. Power converters play a major role in efficiently controlling and converting electric energy used by machines, systems, and everyday products. The process to make converters more efficient was complicated and slow in the twentieth century. One of the important aspects in power electronics is to evaluate different losses and minimize losses to achieve high efficiency of the converter. With help of simulation tools such as MATLAB and LTspice, this process has become much faster and …

Ac Power Monitoring System, Jared L. Newman, Luke M. Tomlinson, Grayson H. Dearing, Frederick G. Harmon Nov 2016

Ac Power Monitoring System, Jared L. Newman, Luke M. Tomlinson, Grayson H. Dearing, Frederick G. Harmon

Channels: Where Disciplines Meet

Motivated by high energy costs, people and organizations want to cut back on their energy consumption. However, the only feedback consumers typically receive is a monthly bill listing their total electricity usage (in kWh). Some companies have begun developing systems that allow households and organizations to monitor their energy usage for individual circuits. Available systems are expensive so a CU engineering senior design team has designed, fabricated, and tested a system for use at Cedarville University. The AC power monitoring system has the ability to measure energy consumption for each individual circuit in the breaker panel, store the data, and …

Solid-State Transformers For Interfacing Solar Panels To The Power Grid: An Optimum Design Methodology Of A High Frequency Transformer For Dc-Dc Converter Applications, Kenny George

Inquiry: The University of Arkansas Undergraduate Research Journal

Nowadays the use of power electronic interfaces to integrate distributed generation with the power grid is becoming relevant due to the increased penetration of renewable energy sources like solar, and the continued interest to move to a smarter and more robust electric grid. Those interfaces, which also provide a voltage step-up or step-down function, are of particular interest because renewable energy sources do not always have voltages compatible with the connecting grid. Among them, the so-called “power electronic transformer” or “solid-state transformer” (SST) is the focus of significant research. Advantages such as bidirectional power flow, improved system control, reduced size, …
