Ai-Driven Security Constrained Unit Commitment Using Predictive Modeling And Eigen Decomposition, Talha Iqbal Jan 2023

Ai-Driven Security Constrained Unit Commitment Using Predictive Modeling And Eigen Decomposition, Talha Iqbal

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Security Constrained Unit Commitment (SC-UC) is a complex large scale mix integer constrained optimization problem solved by Independent System Operators (ISOs) in the daily planning of the electricity markets. After receiving offers and bids, ISOs have only few hours to clear the day-ahead electricity market. It requires a lot of computational effort and a reasonable time to solve a large-scale SC-UC problem. However, exploiting the fact that a UC problem is solved several times a day with only minor changes in the system data, the computational effort can be reduced by learning from the historical data and identifying the patterns …

Modeling Of Inverter-Based Microgrid For Small-Signal And Large-Signal Stability Analysis, Vishal Verma Jan 2022

Modeling Of Inverter-Based Microgrid For Small-Signal And Large-Signal Stability Analysis, Vishal Verma

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Integration of inverter-based resources (IBRs) such as solar photovoltaic, wind, and battery storage, is both a boon and a bane for electric power systems. On one hand, IBRs have helped in making electrical energy a clean (carbon-free) source of energy. On other hand, the dynamics of IBRs have changed the way power system studies have been carried out. With the advantages IBRs offer over conventional resources, it is assumed that a small distribution power system (microgrid) will have a 100% IBRs penetration in the future. Such a microgrid can operate in grid-connected mode or in an islanded mode. Both modes …

Consensus Based Control Strategy For Virtual Synchronous Generators In Microgrids, Anusha Kandula Jan 2021

Consensus Based Control Strategy For Virtual Synchronous Generators In Microgrids, Anusha Kandula

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Renewable energy sources such as photo-voltaic and wind energy are integrating very rapidly in power systems. These energy-based systems typically adopt power-electronic interfaced inverters to connect to the grid. However, unlike traditional generators, these sources have low inertia, resulting in system stability issues, especially in microgrids where they are the primary sources. To mitigate the low-inertia effect, the inverters are modeled as virtual synchronous generators (VSG), and their control is designed. The VSG emulates the inertia effect of the synchronous generator and maintains the stability of the system. Even though the droop control provides the primary control, it is insufficient …

Design And Implementation Of Overcurrent Protection Relays Test Bench, Khalid Daud Khattak Jan 2019

Design And Implementation Of Overcurrent Protection Relays Test Bench, Khalid Daud Khattak

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

The electrical power simulator in Engineering Sciences Building (ESB) at WVU was dismantled in July 2018. The simulator was used as a teaching tool for EE students to conduct lab experiments. The power simulator employed electromechanical and microprocessor protection relays, manual isolation and industrial circuit breakers, switches, variable autotransformer (VARIAC), voltmeters and ammeters. During the dismantling, a lot of equipment was retrieved for future possible use. This led to the idea of designing and implementing a simple circuit on a test bench that can be used as a lab equipment to demonstrate the operation of overcurrent protection relays. It was …
