Improved Vehicle-Bridge Interaction Modeling And Automation Of Bridge System Identification Techniques, Omar Abuodeh Aug 2023

Improved Vehicle-Bridge Interaction Modeling And Automation Of Bridge System Identification Techniques, Omar Abuodeh

All Dissertations

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recognizes the necessity for cost-effective and practical system identification (SI) techniques within structural health monitoring (SHM) frameworks for asset management applications. Indirect health monitoring (IHM), a promising SHM approach, utilizes accelerometer-equipped vehicles to measure bridge modal properties (e.g., natural frequencies, damping ratios, mode shapes) through bridge vibration data to assess the bridge's condition. However, engineers and researchers often encounter noise from road roughness, environmental factors, and vehicular components in collected vehicle signals. This noise contaminates the vehicle signal with spurious modes corresponding to stochastic frequencies, impacting damage monitoring assessments. Thus, an efficient and reliable SI …

Topological Interpolation Method For Modeling Dynamic Systems, Isamiddin Xakimovich Siddikov, Dilnoza Maxamadjanovna Umurzakova Jun 2023

Topological Interpolation Method For Modeling Dynamic Systems, Isamiddin Xakimovich Siddikov, Dilnoza Maxamadjanovna Umurzakova

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

The method of simulation structural-complex continuous-discrete control systems is discussed. For simulation and calculation of dynamic processes in continuous-discrete systems topological interpolation method is proposed, based on application of hybrid methods of space of state variables and interpolation of signals. The essence of the method is that the dynamics of the investigated system, considered at the final interval, is broken down into subintervals, on each of which the processes are described by linear ordinary system differential equations. The computational efficiency of the proposed method was evaluated by comparison with standard methods such as the Runge-Kutta-Merson method. The use of this …

Modeling, Simulation And Control Of Microrobots For The Microfactory., Zhong Yang May 2023

Modeling, Simulation And Control Of Microrobots For The Microfactory., Zhong Yang

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Future assembly technologies will involve higher levels of automation in order to satisfy increased microscale or nanoscale precision requirements. Traditionally, assembly using a top-down robotic approach has been well-studied and applied to the microelectronics and MEMS industries, but less so in nanotechnology. With the boom of nanotechnology since the 1990s, newly designed products with new materials, coatings, and nanoparticles are gradually entering everyone’s lives, while the industry has grown into a billion-dollar volume worldwide. Traditionally, nanotechnology products are assembled using bottom-up methods, such as self-assembly, rather than top-down robotic assembly. This is due to considerations of volume handling of large …

Performance Of Sensor Fusion For Vehicular Applications, Nikola Janevski Jan 2022

Performance Of Sensor Fusion For Vehicular Applications, Nikola Janevski

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Sensor fusion is a key system in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, ADAS. The perfor-
mance of the sensor fusion depends on many factors such as the sensors used, the kinematic
model used in the Extended Kalman Filter, EKF, the motion of the vehicles, the type of
road, the density of vehicles, and the gating methods. The interactions between parameters
and the extent to which individual parameters contribute to the overall accuracy of a sensor
fusion system can be difficult to assess.
In this study, a full-factorial experimental evaluation of a sensor fusion system based
on a real vehicle was performed. …

Structural – Parametric Analysis And Synthesis Of Glass Furnace Condition Observer, Utkir Uktam O‘G‘Li Kholmanov Aug 2020

Structural – Parametric Analysis And Synthesis Of Glass Furnace Condition Observer, Utkir Uktam O‘G‘Li Kholmanov

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

A modified Kalman filter of the glass cooking process is synthesized, taking into account perturbations in the form of a sequence of colored noises. The possibility of expanding this filter by noise filters to improve functioning in the presence of low-frequency disturbances is studied and a corresponding estimation scheme with additional noise filters is proposed. The results of the simulation allow us to assume that low-frequency disturbances in the glass furnace act at the input and affect the state of the control object.

Stability Analysis Of Systems With Time Delay Simulation Program, Matthew Carroll, Brandon Replogle Jun 2020

Stability Analysis Of Systems With Time Delay Simulation Program, Matthew Carroll, Brandon Replogle

Electrical Engineering

A small company wants to develop a CAD tool, ideally as part of the MATLAB suite of tools, for system stability analysis of nonlinear control systems with time-delay. The program must allow the designer to input the system block diagram graphically, then using symbolic expansion, automatically generate the Laplace domain stability boundary and disturbance settling time. The stable regions are then to be graphically plotted as a set of 2- or 3-dimensional parametric stability boundaries. The designer can then input performance constraints on the system through the MATLAB console and a Simulink environment will automatically be generated.

This program is …

Evaluating Driving Performance Of A Novel Behavior Planning Model On Connected Autonomous Vehicles, Keyur Shah May 2020

Evaluating Driving Performance Of A Novel Behavior Planning Model On Connected Autonomous Vehicles, Keyur Shah

Honors Scholar Theses

Many current algorithms and approaches in autonomous driving attempt to solve the "trajectory generation" or "trajectory following” problems: given a target behavior (e.g. stay in the current lane at the speed limit or change lane), what trajectory should the vehicle follow, and what inputs should the driving agent apply to the throttle and brake to achieve this trajectory? In this work, we instead focus on the “behavior planning” problem—specifically, should an autonomous vehicle change lane or keep lane given the current state of the system?

In addition, current theory mainly focuses on single-vehicle systems, where vehicles do not communicate with …

Modeling And Simulation Methodologies For Spinal Cord Stimulation., Saliya Kumara Kirigeeganage Dec 2018

Modeling And Simulation Methodologies For Spinal Cord Stimulation., Saliya Kumara Kirigeeganage

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The use of neural prostheses to improve health of paraplegics has been a prime interest of neuroscientists over the last few decades. Scientists have performed experiments with spinal cord stimulation (SCS) to enable voluntary motor function of paralyzed patients. However, the experimentation on the human spinal cord is not a trivial task. Therefore, modeling and simulation techniques play a significant role in understanding the underlying concepts and mechanics of the spinal cord stimulation. In this work, simulation and modeling techniques related to spinal cord stimulation were investigated. The initial work was intended to visualize the electric field distribution patterns in …

Optimizing Control Of Shell Eco-Marathon Prototype Vehicle To Minimize Fuel Consumption, Chad Louis Bickel Apr 2017

Optimizing Control Of Shell Eco-Marathon Prototype Vehicle To Minimize Fuel Consumption, Chad Louis Bickel

Master's Theses

Every year the automotive industry strives to increase fuel efficiency in vehicles. When most vehicles are designed, fuel efficiency cannot always come first. The Shell Eco-marathon changes that by challenging students everywhere to develop the most fuel-efficient vehicle possible. There are many different factors that affect fuel efficiency, and different teams focus on different vehicle parameters. Currently, there is no straightforward design tool that can be used to help in Shell Eco-marathon vehicle design. For this reason, it is difficult to optimize every vehicle parameter for maximum fuel efficiency.

In this study, a simulation is developed by using basic vehicle …

Design Of Energy Storage Controls Using Genetic Algorithms For Stochastic Problems, Si Chen

Theses and Dissertations--Electrical and Computer Engineering

A successful power system in military applications (warship, aircraft, armored vehicle etc.) must operate acceptably under a wide range of conditions involving different loading configurations; it must maintain war fighting ability and recover quickly and stably after being damaged. The introduction of energy storage for the power system of an electric warship integrated engineering plant (IEP) may increase the availability and survivability of the electrical power under these conditions. Herein, the problem of energy storage control is addressed in terms of maximizing the average performance. A notional medium-voltage dc system is used as the system model in the study. A …

Added Mass Computation For Control Of An Open-Frame Remotely-Operated Vehicle: Application Using Wamit And Matlab, You-Hong Eng, Cheng-Siong Chin, Michael Wai-Shing Lau

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

In this paper, numerical modeling and testing of a complexshaped remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) are shown. The paper emphasizes on systematic modeling of hydrodynamic added mass using computational fluid dynamic software WAMITTM on the open frame ROV that is not commonly applied in practice. From initial design and prototype testing, a small-scale test using a free-decaying experiment is used to verify the theoretical models obtained from WAMITTM. Simulation results have shown to coincide with the experimental tests. The proposed method is able to determine the hydrodynamic added mass coefficients of the open frame ROV.
