Toward Building An Intelligent And Secure Network: An Internet Traffic Forecasting Perspective, Sajal Saha Aug 2023

Toward Building An Intelligent And Secure Network: An Internet Traffic Forecasting Perspective, Sajal Saha

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Internet traffic forecast is a crucial component for the proactive management of self-organizing networks (SON) to ensure better Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE). Given the volatile and random nature of traffic data, this forecasting influences strategic development and investment decisions in the Internet Service Provider (ISP) industry. Modern machine learning algorithms have shown potential in dealing with complex Internet traffic prediction tasks, yet challenges persist. This thesis systematically explores these issues over five empirical studies conducted in the past three years, focusing on four key research questions: How do outlier data samples impact prediction accuracy for …

Facial Expression Recognition Using Convolutional Neural Networks (Cnns) And Generative Adversarial Networks (Gans) For Data Augmentation And Image Generation, Shekhar Singh Aug 2023

Facial Expression Recognition Using Convolutional Neural Networks (Cnns) And Generative Adversarial Networks (Gans) For Data Augmentation And Image Generation, Shekhar Singh

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Facial expressions play a crucial role in human communication, serving as a powerful means to convey emotions. However, classifying facial expressions using artificial intelligence (AI) can be challenging, especially with small datasets and images. Facial Expression Recognition (FER) is an active area of research, with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) being widely employed for classification. In this research, we propose a CNN-based approach for FER that utilizes both original and augmented datasets to enhance classification accuracy. Experimental results on the FER2013 dataset show test accuracies of 63.39% and 64.59% for the original and augmented datasets, respectively, in a seven-class classification task. …

Conditional Variational Autoencoder (Cvae) For The Augmentation Of Ecl Biosensor Data, Matthew Dulcich Apr 2022

Conditional Variational Autoencoder (Cvae) For The Augmentation Of Ecl Biosensor Data, Matthew Dulcich

Honors Theses

Machine Learning (ML) is vastly improving the world, from computer vision to fully self-driving cars, we are now able accomplish objectives that were thought to only be dreams. In order to train ML models accurately, they require mountains of information to work with, but sometimes it becomes impossible to collect the data needed, so we turn to data augmentation. In this project we use a conditional variational auto encoder to supplement the original video electrochemiluminescence biosensor dataset, in order to increase the accuracy of a future classification model. In other words, using a cVAE we will create unique realistic videos …

Human Age And Gender Classification Using Convolutional Neural Networks, Eamon Kelliher Jan 2021

Human Age And Gender Classification Using Convolutional Neural Networks, Eamon Kelliher

Dissertations

In a world relying ever more on human classification, this papers aims to improve on age and gender image classification through the use of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). Age and gender classification has become a popular area of study in the past number of years however there are still improvements to be made, particularly in the area of age classification. This research paper aims to test the currently accepted fact that CNN models are the superior model type for image classification by comparing CNN performance against Support Vector Machine performance on the same dataset. Using the Adience image classification dataset, …

Improving A Network Intrusion Detection System’S Efficiency Using Model-Based Data Augmentation, Vinicius Waterkemper Lodetti Jan 2021

Improving A Network Intrusion Detection System’S Efficiency Using Model-Based Data Augmentation, Vinicius Waterkemper Lodetti

Dissertations

A network intrusion detection system (NIDS) is one important element to mitigate cybersecurity risks, the NIDS allow for detecting anomalies in a network which may be a cyberattack to a corporate network environment. A NIDS can be seen as a classification problem where the ultimate goal is to distinguish between malicious traffic among a majority of benign traffic. Researches on NIDS are often performed using outdated datasets that don’t represent the actual cyberspace. Datasets such as the CICIDS2018 address this gap by being generated from attacks and an infrastructure that reflects an up-to-date scenario.

A problem may arise when machine …

Deep Learning Based Face Detection And Recognition In Mwir And Visible Bands, Suha Reddy Mokalla Jan 2020

Deep Learning Based Face Detection And Recognition In Mwir And Visible Bands, Suha Reddy Mokalla

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

In non-favorable conditions for visible imaging like extreme illumination or nighttime, there is a need to collect images in other spectra, specifically infrared. Mid-Wave infrared (3-5 microm) images can be collected without giving away the location of the sensor in varying illumination conditions. There are many algorithms for face detection, face alignment, face recognition etc. proposed in visible band till date, while the research using MWIR images is highly limited. Face detection is an important pre-processing step for face recognition, which in turn is an important biometric modality. This thesis works towards bridging the gap between MWIR and visible spectrum …
