Presentation Of A Multilayer Nanosensor For Gas Detection By Palladium-Membrane With Emphasis On Hydrogen Gas, Ali Mohammad Noorian, Mahdi Sadeghi, Hassan Rasooli Saghai

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Hydrogen gas sensors, based on palladium membranes, have considerable applications in areas such as industry, aerospace, and green energy monitoring. In this paper, we propose a surface plasmon resonance nanosensor, in which the main metal sensor is taken to be gold with a thin nanolayer of palladium membrane. The reason we chose palladium is its exceptional property of having high permittivity to hydrogen penetration. In this paper, formation of palladium hydride (PdH$_{x}$, where x = H / Pd) is achieved and simulation is provided using Materials Studio software. Based on an intermediate assumption, a semiconductor gold composite layer is used …

An Adaptive Fault Diagnosis Approach Using Pipeline Implementation For Railway Inspection, Yunus Santur, Mehmet Karaköse, Erhan Akin

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Railway tracks must be periodically inspected. This study proposes a new approach for eliminating two major disadvantages experienced during rail inspection applications performed via computer vision. The first is the blurring effect on images, resulting from physical vibration during movement on the rail lines. This effect significantly reduces the high accuracy rate expected from anomaly inspection algorithms. The second disadvantage is the need to operate in real time. This study presents a new three-stage computer vision method approach that eliminates both disadvantages. First, a three-stage pipeline architecture is implemented and IMU-assisted blur detection is performed on images taken from the …

A Comparative Study On Different Types Of Metamaterials For Enhancement Of Microstrip Patch Antenna Directivity At The Ku-Band (12 Ghz), Bi̇lal Tütüncü, Hami̇d Torpi̇, Bülent Urul

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper proposes improving the directivity of microstrip patch antennas (MPAs) by using metamaterials. Four different metamaterial types are used as a flat lens in front of the MPA, respectively, which are tuned to 12 GHz (Ku-band) resonance frequency. Thus, it can be decided which metamaterial is more proper for antenna directivity enhancement at this band. One additional new metamaterial structure is proposed in this paper, which is called a Euro-shaped resonator, and other metamaterials used are the triangular split ring resonator, symmetrical ring structure, and split ring resonator. The permeability and permittivity of metamaterials are extracted from the S …

Investigating The Experimental Limits Of The Brewster's Angle Method, Can Sümer, Alp Kuştepeli̇, Mehmet Sali̇h Di̇nleyi̇ci̇

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

We present the method, analysis, and experimental results of the Brewster's angle method commonly used for determining the refractive indices of optical films. We show the significance of the intersection of reflectance curves, in that the necessity for substrate refractive index and film layer thickness knowledge are both eliminated. We present the conditions for the existence of the second intersection of reflectance curves and introduce a method for determining the refractive index of the substrate layer by using the angular information alone. Analytical results reveal impressive practical sensitivity and accuracy limits for the method, where the experimental results also support …

Ab Initio Study Of The Structural, Electronic, And Magnetic Properties Of Co$_{2}$Fega And Co$_{2}$Fesi And Their Future Contribution To The Building Of Quantum Devices, Abdallah Oumsalem, Yamina Bourezig, Zakia Nabi, Badra Bouabdallah

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

How small can an electronic device be and still function? How many atoms are needed for such device? At what point will the semiconductor fabrication technology be unable to construct anything smaller? These are common questions asked by researchers, and the answers indicate the short-term limitations on the use of semiconductor technology. When we reach these limitations, we can propose two methods to solve these problems: first, we could continue using semiconductor technology, alongside the development of new theories and techniques to counter quantum effects caused by the miniaturization of electronic devices like transistors and microprocessors. Second, we could exploit …

Interactive Process Miner: A New Approach For Process Mining, İsmai̇l Yürek, Derya Bi̇rant, Kökten Ulaş Bi̇rant

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Process mining is a technique for extracting knowledge from event logs recorded by an information system. In the process discovery phase of process mining, a process model is constructed to represent the business processes systematically and to give a general opinion about the progressive of processes in the event log. The constructed process model can be very complex as a result of structured and unstructured processes recorded in real life. Previous studies proposed different approaches to filter or eliminate some processes from the model to simplify it by implementing some statistical or mathematical formulas rather than user interactions. The main …

Topological Feature Extraction Of Nonlinear Signals And Trajectories And Its Application In Eeg Signals Classification, Saleh Lashkari, Ali Sheikhani, Mohammad Reza Hashemi Golpayegani, Ali Moghimi, Hamid Reza Kobravi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This study introduces seven topological features that characterize attractor dynamic of nonlinear and chaotic trajectories in a phase space. These features quantify volume, occupied space, nonuniformity, and curvature of trajectory. The features are evaluated as initial point invariant measures by a practical approach, which means that a feature is only sensitive to dynamic changes. The Lorenz and Rossler system trajectories are employed in this evaluation. Moreover, the proposed features are used in a real world application, i.e. epileptic seizure electroencephalogram signal classification. As the result shows, these features are efficient in this task in comparison with others studies that used …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A mobile wireless sensor network (MWSN) consists of many sensor nodes, which can move from one position to another and gather data from the environment, and such nodes are coordinated with the support of a sink node. In recent years, the mobility behavior of sensor nodes present in wireless sensor networks is used to form effective clustering and to perform cluster-based routing. Virtual force is an important phenomenon in sensor nodes, which is used to model the mobility behavior. Production rules that use spatiotemporal constraints are able to make more accurate decisions on mobility speed, mobility area, and the required …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

AC machines fed by a single inverter are widely used in industries such as railroad electrification systems where speed synchronization does not have to be exact. The low cost and volume and the small number of power electronic components are attractive aspects of single-inverter multi-motor systems. This paper proposes a novel approach to controlling the speed and torque of two induction motors connected in parallel and fed by a matrix converter under unbalanced load condition. This single-inverter dual-motor (SIDM) drive uses average and differential values of speed and torque together with stator and rotor flux parameters based on the flux …

Adaptive Antisingularity Terminal Sliding Mode Control For A Robotic Arm With Model Uncertainties And External Disturbances, Kiem Nguyen, Tinh Nguyen, Quyen Bui, Minhtuan Pham

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, a radical adaptive terminal sliding mode control method for a robotic arm with model uncertainties and external disturbances is proposed in such a way that the singularity problem is completely dealt with. A radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) with an online weight tuning algorithm is employed to approximate unknown smooth nonlinear dynamic functions caused by the fact that there is no prior knowledge of the robotic dynamic model. Furthermore, a robust control law is utilized in order to eliminate total uncertainty composed of model uncertainties, external disturbances, and the inevitable approximation errors resulting from the finite …

Feature Selection Algorithm For No-Reference Image Quality Assessment Using Natural Scene Statistics, Imran Fareed Nizami, Muhammad Majid, Khawar Khurshid

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Images play an essential part in our daily lives and the performance of various imaging applications is dependent on the user?s quality of experience. No-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) has gained importance to assess the perceived quality, without using any prior information of the nondistorted version of the image. Different NR-IQA techniques that utilize natural scene statistics classify the distortion type based on groups of features and then these features are used for estimating the image quality score. However, every type of distortion has a different impact on certain sets of features. In this paper, a new feature selection algorithm …

Pattern Diversity Antenna For On-Body And Off-Body Wban Links, Sema Dumanli Jan 2018

Pattern Diversity Antenna For On-Body And Off-Body Wban Links, Sema Dumanli

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Maintaining the quality and the reliability of a wireless body area network (WBAN) has a variety of challenges, one of which is the design of the on-body antenna. The on-body antenna often forms both on-body and off-body links and needs to have an application-specific pattern to secure the connection. The antenna should direct its energy in parallel to the human skin while establishing an on-body link, ideally omnidirectionally, while an on-body link would benefit from a directional radiation pattern perpendicular to human skin. Moreover, the lossy body tissue is within the reactive region of the antenna affecting the antenna performance; …

Secure Access Control In Multidomain Environments And Formal Analysis Of Model Specifications, Fatemeh Nazerian, Homayun Motameni, Hossein Nematzadeh Jan 2018

Secure Access Control In Multidomain Environments And Formal Analysis Of Model Specifications, Fatemeh Nazerian, Homayun Motameni, Hossein Nematzadeh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Distributed multiple organizations interact with each other. If the domains employ role-based access control, one method for interaction between domains is role-mapping. However, it may violate constraints in the domains such as role hierarchy, separation of duty, and cardinality. Therefore, autonomy of the domains is lost. This paper proposes secure interoperation in multidomain environments. For this purpose, a cross-domain is created by foreign permission assignment. In an effort to maintain the autonomy of every domain, several rules are defined formally. Then, a decentralized scheme is used to provide permission mapping between domains. At the next stage, the proposed cross-domain is …

Enlarging Multiword Expression Dataset By Co-Training, Senem Kumova Meti̇n

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In multiword expressions (MWEs), multiple words unite to build a new unit in language. When MWE identification is accepted as a binary classification task, one of the most important factors in performance is to train the classifier with enough number of labelled samples. Since manual labelling is a time-consuming task, the performances of MWE recognition studies are limited with the size of the training sets. In this study, we propose the comparison-based and common-decision co-training approaches in order to enlarge the MWE dataset. In the experiments, the performances of the proposed approaches were compared to those of the standard co-training …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The study of electrical distribution of primary networks design is oriented to reduce the construction costs and the energy losses by transmission. The topology for the implementation of distribution networks may vary according to the geographical characteristics of the final users and requires specialized optimization solutions with metaheuristics to improve the energy performance of the electrical power systems. A parallel genetic algorithm (PGA) is proposed to optimize a tree-based topology for large-scale electric power distribution networks. The proposed PGA uses the dandelion code, which allows obtaining tree-feasible solutions within each iteration of the PGA. This cannot be achieved with other …
