Progressive Failure Strength Characteristics Of Anisotropic Rocks Caused By Mineral Directional Arrangement: A Case Of Biotite Quartz Schist, Han Bao, Zhi-Yang Chen, Heng-Xing Lan, Run-Sheng Pei, Fa-Quan Wu, Chang-Gen Yan, Yue Tao

Rock and Soil Mechanics

To explore the strength characteristics of anisotropic rocks caused by mineral directional arrangement during progressive failure process, biotite quartz schist was taken as an example, and triaxial compression tests were carried out on samples with schistosity angles of 0°, 45° and 90°. The macro and micro failure characteristics and progressive failure strength index of the specimens were analyzed, and the differences with other types of anisotropic rock were discussed. The results show that the failure characteristics of biotite quartz schist are closely related to its schistosity. With the schistosity angle increasing from 0° to 90°, the main macro and micro …

Prediction Of Water Inflow In Water-Sealed Oil Storage Caverns Based On Fracture Seepage Effect, Zhong-Ming Jiang, Zhe-Zhen Xiao, Dong Tang, Guo-Fu He, Wei Xu Jun 2022

Prediction Of Water Inflow In Water-Sealed Oil Storage Caverns Based On Fracture Seepage Effect, Zhong-Ming Jiang, Zhe-Zhen Xiao, Dong Tang, Guo-Fu He, Wei Xu

Rock and Soil Mechanics

The accurate prediction on the spatial distribution of water inflow and seepage characteristics in the cavern is one of the basic tasks to ensure the safety and economy during construction and operation of the underground water-sealed oil cavern. In order to study the seepage effect of randomly distributed fractures in the surrounding rock of underground water-sealed oil storage cavern on water inflow prediction and spatial distribution of seepage field, a seepage analysis method of fractured rock mass based on embedded fracture element (EFE) is proposed to analyze the three-dimensional seepage field in Zhanjiang water-sealed oil storage caverns. The reliability of …

Mechanical Properties And Strength Criterion Of Zhanjiang Structured Clay In Three-Dimensional Stress State, Bing-Heng Liu, Ling-Wei Kong, Rong-Jun Shu, Tian-Guo Li Feb 2022

Mechanical Properties And Strength Criterion Of Zhanjiang Structured Clay In Three-Dimensional Stress State, Bing-Heng Liu, Ling-Wei Kong, Rong-Jun Shu, Tian-Guo Li

Rock and Soil Mechanics

In order to investigate the mechanical properties of Zhanjiang structured clay in the three-dimensional stress state and the influence of structure on its strength criterion, a series of undrained true triaxial tests of different intermediate principal stress ratios, b-values, with equal mean principal stress, p-values, and undrained plane strain tests was carried out. The results are as follows. When p is less than or greater than the yield stress of the structure, the q- curves are strain softening and mild strain hardening type in general. The q- curves of true triaxial tests with different b-values are similar in shape. As …
