Estimation Of Origin-Destination Matrix Using Open-Source Applications Based On Traffic Counts For Mansoura City In Egypt, Ahmed N. Awaad, Sherif M. El-Badawy, Elsayed Abd-Elazem Shwaly, Usama Elrawy Shahdah

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Origin-destination matrices (ODMs) are essential to transportation planning but estimating them can be difficult and expensive. This study presents a framework for estimating ODMs using traffic flow counts using open-source tools. The framework was applied to a dataset from the city of Mansoura in Egypt. The Flowrouter algorithm, which is part of the SUMO microscopic traffic simulation model, was used for routing traffic between traffic flow counting locations. Additionally, the “Implausible Routes” algorithm was used to eliminate unrealistic routes from the generated solution. The results show that the ODM obtained is a reasonable representation of the demand between the different …

Critical Buckling Coefficient Of Tapered Web Plate Girder Under Compression And Bending Stresses, Saad A. Yehia, Ramy I. Shahin Oct 2023

Critical Buckling Coefficient Of Tapered Web Plate Girder Under Compression And Bending Stresses, Saad A. Yehia, Ramy I. Shahin

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The tapered girders were developed as a cost-effective solution to the problem of long-span building construction. These systems are very attractive from an economic viewpoint, combining wide spans, quick erection, and easy access to services between the shallow parts of the beam and the ceiling below. Elastic-local buckling is one of several modes of failure that must be considered during the structure design. Although elastic-local buckling has been studied for decades, there is still a need to develop quick and comprehensive procedures that will reduce product design time, particularly during the pre-sizing stage. Most design codes have no specific provisions …

Improving Square Skirted Foundations Behavior On Sand, Tamer Al-Shyoukhi, Ayman Altahrany, Mahmoud Elmeligy Aug 2023

Improving Square Skirted Foundations Behavior On Sand, Tamer Al-Shyoukhi, Ayman Altahrany, Mahmoud Elmeligy

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Shallow foundations' behavior is enhanced by using skirts to confine the soil beneath the foundation. The bearing capacity and settlement of skirted foundations resting on the sand are influenced by the size of the skirt cell and shear strength of sand. Experimental modelling was carried out on an axially square-skirted footing resting on sand in this study. Plaxis-3D software was used for numerical analysis to support the experimental results. The numerical analysis results validated the experimental results. The outcomes of the study demonstrated that skirts wider than the footing size increased the bearing capacity of skirted foundations. In the case …

Deep Learning Techniques For Efficient Evaluation Of Asphalt Pavement Condition, Kamel Mahdy, Ahmed Zekry, Mohamed Moussa, Ahmed Mohamed, Hassan Mahdy, Mohamed Elhabiby Aug 2023

Deep Learning Techniques For Efficient Evaluation Of Asphalt Pavement Condition, Kamel Mahdy, Ahmed Zekry, Mohamed Moussa, Ahmed Mohamed, Hassan Mahdy, Mohamed Elhabiby

Mansoura Engineering Journal

For the last few decades, researchers have been devising a simple and cost-effective method to evaluate pavement distresses to give decision-makers adequate feedbacks about the pavement condition of a certain road. Fortunately, with the evolution and progression of computer vision tools and techniques, good results had been achieved regarding the detection, classification, and quantification of road distress. In this paper, a new efficient process of road distress analysis using deep learning models is introduced. This new process was tested on a collected road dataset to evaluate the efficiency and speed of this low-cost road maintenance system. Promising results were obtained …

Evaluation Of The Effect Of Mls Density Level Data On Dem, Essam Ghanem, Mostafa Rabah, Fekry Ashraf Apr 2023

Evaluation Of The Effect Of Mls Density Level Data On Dem, Essam Ghanem, Mostafa Rabah, Fekry Ashraf

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Mobile laser scanning (MLS) systems are quickly establishing themselves as the primary source of high-quality digital elevation models (DEM). Data density is the key element that determine the quality of DEMs. Moreover, point density acts a vital role in MLS operation planning and MLS project's cost. This study's goal was to evaluate the impact of point density from MLS on creating DEMs and the accuracy of computed volume in different interpolation methods. The finding demonstrated that the DEM's quality and the volume are more impacted by density level and interpolation method. Interpolation methods are affected by point density. There is …

Numerical Investigations Of Gfrc Beams Strengthened In Shear With Innovative Techniques, Marwa H. Bondok, Gamal I. Khaleel, Ahmed S. Debaiky, Mohamed H. Makhlouf Apr 2023

Numerical Investigations Of Gfrc Beams Strengthened In Shear With Innovative Techniques, Marwa H. Bondok, Gamal I. Khaleel, Ahmed S. Debaiky, Mohamed H. Makhlouf

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This paper discusses the Finite Element analysis (FE) conducted to predict the behavior of Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) beams without shear reinforcement (stirrups) and strengthen them with proposed techniques to increase their shear strength. for this study, A total of eighteen (18) (120 * 300 * 2200 mm) specimens were modeled using Ansys™ mechanical. The main variables were the percentage of discrete glass fiber in the concrete (0.0, 0.6, and 1.2%), the type of main reinforcing bars (steel or GFRP), the shear strengthening material (GFRP or steel) links, the strengthening systems (side near-surface mounted (SNSM) bars, externally bonded (EB) …

System Dynamics And Topsis Models For Sustainable Building Materials Selection Considering Life Cycle Assessment, Shimaa Elshoubaky, Emad Elbeltagi, Mohammed Abd Elrahman, Islam Elmasoudi Apr 2023

System Dynamics And Topsis Models For Sustainable Building Materials Selection Considering Life Cycle Assessment, Shimaa Elshoubaky, Emad Elbeltagi, Mohammed Abd Elrahman, Islam Elmasoudi

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Construction industry is the most contributor to the environmental impacts. Achieving sustainability in construction is complicated, but one of the most optimal strategies is selecting sustainable building materials.

The major goal of this study is to present a new idea for choosing sustainable building materials (SBMs) by simulating sustainability parameters' behaviour. This research proposes a System Dynamics (SD) model along with the TOPSIS method based on the dynamic interactions among a number of sustainable criteria to help decision makers in sustainable building materials selection. The sustainable criteria that form system boundary are determined from previous studies and experts′ opinions. The …

Uses Of Geographic Information Systems And Remote Sensing To Study The Natural Resource Management Of The Red Sea Governorate, Egypt, Shrouk Galal, Fawzi Hamid Zarzoura, Mahmoud El-Mewafi Jan 2023

Uses Of Geographic Information Systems And Remote Sensing To Study The Natural Resource Management Of The Red Sea Governorate, Egypt, Shrouk Galal, Fawzi Hamid Zarzoura, Mahmoud El-Mewafi

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The Red Sea governorate is rich in natural resources that create challenges for Egypt's future economy and growth. The right ways must be found to manage and discover these resources without wasting them. Remote sensing is one of the best methods used in the development of natural resources. It is based on measuring electromagnetic ray reflections from deep-seated or dispersed natural resources, and these images are processed uniquely for a variety of applications, including the detection of minerals, making land cover maps, shifting rocks, and monitoring of geological distortions. The altered rocks that existed in the study area were identified …
