Experimental Study On The Permeability Characteristics Of Laminated Shale Under Cyclic Loading, Chuang Zhang, Song Ren, Fei Wu, Jie Liu, Xu-Hui Zhou May 2022

Experimental Study On The Permeability Characteristics Of Laminated Shale Under Cyclic Loading, Chuang Zhang, Song Ren, Fei Wu, Jie Liu, Xu-Hui Zhou

Rock and Soil Mechanics

It is of great significance for the safe construction of shale gas tunnels to deeply understand the evolution law of permeability of laminated shale with macro fractures under cyclic disturbance. The permeability evolution of shale specimens containing axial beddings and axial macro fractures under cyclic axial stress and cyclic confining pressure was experimentally studied using the GCTS rock mechanics testing system. The results show that the permeability of shale specimens containing axial beddings did not change significantly during the loading and unloading of axial stress, but it decreased in a negatively exponential form with the increasing confining pressure and increased …

Experimental Study On Brazilian Splitting Of Phyllite Under The Coupling Effects Of Water, Pore And Bedding, Chuang Zhang, Song Ren, Ping Zhang, Neng-Zeng Long Oct 2021

Experimental Study On Brazilian Splitting Of Phyllite Under The Coupling Effects Of Water, Pore And Bedding, Chuang Zhang, Song Ren, Ping Zhang, Neng-Zeng Long

Rock and Soil Mechanics

Phylite is widely distributed in southwest of China. Factors such as groundwater, bedding, micro-pores and micro-cracks will weaken its mechanical properties to some extent, thus posing severe challenges to the stability of the related projects. Therefore, in this paper, based on Brazilian splitting test, the evolutions of the tensile strength, energy and failure forms of phyllite under the coupling effects of water, bedding and pore are studied. The results show that the tensile strength decreases gradually with the increase of moisture content, pore diameter and bedding angle. However, the tensile strength has different sensitivities to the changes of them, which …

Investigation On Brazilian Tests And Simulations Of Carbonaceous Slate With Different Bedding Angles, Er-Qiang Li, Hong-Chang Zhang, Long-Fei Zhang, Tian-Yu Zhu, Jing-Gan Lu, Ji-Li Feng Feb 2021

Investigation On Brazilian Tests And Simulations Of Carbonaceous Slate With Different Bedding Angles, Er-Qiang Li, Hong-Chang Zhang, Long-Fei Zhang, Tian-Yu Zhu, Jing-Gan Lu, Ji-Li Feng

Rock and Soil Mechanics

Bedding structural planes play a dominated role in the failure process of carbonaceous slate under loading/unloading conditions. In this work, specimens with the clay mineral rich carbonaceous slate were sampled from Muzhailing tunnel of Shaanxi province in China. A series of Brazilian split tests for the rock specimens was conducted and the corresponding numerical simulations were perfor- med using the cohesive zone model (CZM), in which different bedding angles in the rock were taken into account. This study indicates that the load-displacement relations of the rock specimens with different bedding angles under loads are similar to each other. All of …
