Application Of Wavelet Analysis And Random Field In Integrity Management Of Pipelines Containing Dents And Corrosions, Junxiong Lin
Application Of Wavelet Analysis And Random Field In Integrity Management Of Pipelines Containing Dents And Corrosions, Junxiong Lin
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Metal loss corrosions and dents are two major threats to the integrity of oil and natural gas pipelines. In the pipeline industry, the Fitness-For-Service (FFS) assessment is commonly employed for pipelines containing these defects. However, FFS assessment usually assumes that a defect has a simple shape, and such a simplification may significantly affect the accuracy of the assessment. Therefore, retaining the actual shapes of defects and incorporating them into the FFS assessment can improve assessment accuracy. The main objective of the present thesis is to extract key information about the sizes, directions, and shapes of corrosions and dents from the …
Hydrothermal Liquefaction (Htl) Of Lignocellulosic Biomass For Biocrude Production: Reaction Kinetics And Corrosion-Resistance Performance Of Candidate Alloys For Reactors, Haoyu Wang
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
In recent years, the rapid increase in the demand for clean energy and green chemicals as well as concerns over the supply and environmental impacts associated with fossil. resources have stimulated intensive research on conversion of bioresources, such as lignocellulosic biomass and biowaste, into energy, fuels, chemicals, and materials.
Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is a unique thermochemical conversion process, particularly applicable for the conversion of wet biomass and biowaste feedstocks. Most of the biomass HTL studies are conducted in batch reactor and focus on the effects of catalysts, reaction temperature and time on production efficiency and chemical properties of the products. …
Near-Ir Laser Ablation Of Simulated Radiologically Contaminated Oxides On Carbon Steel Feeder Pipes, Thao Viet Do
Near-Ir Laser Ablation Of Simulated Radiologically Contaminated Oxides On Carbon Steel Feeder Pipes, Thao Viet Do
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
As nuclear power plants age and retire from service, many countries face significant challenges concerning the safe long-term storage and disposal of large volumes of low and intermediate level radioactive wastes (L&ILW). The volumes of metallic waste are of particular concern, as when metal corrodes it produces hydrogen that could lead to pressure build-up in interim storage and disposal. In Canada, a significant fraction of the metallic wastes for Canada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) nuclear reactors are out-of-core reactor components, such as carbon steel (CS) feeder pipes. The radioactive contamination is expected to be largely confined to the surface oxide layers …
Large-Scale Analysis And Automated Detection Of Trunnion Corrosion On Hip Arthroplasty Devices, Anastasia M. Codirenzi
Large-Scale Analysis And Automated Detection Of Trunnion Corrosion On Hip Arthroplasty Devices, Anastasia M. Codirenzi
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Corrosion at the modular head-neck taper interface of total and hemiarthroplasty hip implants (trunnionosis) is a cause of implant failure and thus a clinical concern. Patient and device factors contributing to the occurrence of trunnionosis have been investigated in prior implant retrieval studies. The Goldberg corrosion scoring method is considered the gold standard for observing trunnionosis, but it is labour-intensive. As a result, previous studies have generally looked at under 250 implants for analysis. The purpose of this thesis was to do a large-scale analysis of trunnionosis and explore its relationship to device and patient factors and compare to previously …
Nonlinear Dynamics Of Carbon Steel Corrosion Under Gamma Radiation, Youn Gyeong Shin
Nonlinear Dynamics Of Carbon Steel Corrosion Under Gamma Radiation, Youn Gyeong Shin
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Corrosion of materials is still an unresolved problem affecting a multitude of industries. One of the grand challenges facing the corrosion community is the development of high-fidelity models for corrosion in actual service environments. The difficulties arise since corrosion involves transfer of metal atoms between the solid and solution phases thus making the system non-adiabatic. Interfacial transfer of atoms increases the chance of establishing systemic feedback between chemical reactions and transport processes, which results in chemical oscillation and periodic patterns on the corroding surfaces. These oscillating behavior in electrochemical measurements and pattern formation on corroding surfaces have been reported in …
Application Of Bayesian Networks To Integrity Management Of Energy Pipelines, Wei Xiang
Application Of Bayesian Networks To Integrity Management Of Energy Pipelines, Wei Xiang
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Metal-loss corrosion and third-party damage (TPD) are the leading threats to the integrity of buried oil and natural gas pipelines. This thesis employs Bayesian networks (BNs) and non-parametric Bayesian networks (NPBNs) to deal with four issues with regard to the reliability-based management program of corrosion and TPD. The first study integrates the quantification of measurement errors of the ILI tools, corrosion growth modeling and reliability analysis in a single dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) model, and employs the parameter learning technique to learn the parameters of the DBN model from the ILI-reported and filed-measured corrosion depths. The second study develops the …
Surface Modification Of Aluminum Alloys By Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation, Vahid Dehnavi
Surface Modification Of Aluminum Alloys By Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation, Vahid Dehnavi
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) is a surface treatment for the production of ceramic oxide coatings with great properties, such as high wear and corrosion resistance, on metal substrates, particularly aluminum and magnesium alloys. Formation of PEO coatings involves complex processes and mechanisms that are difficult to study. Currently, the PEO process is in a transition phase from research to commercial application, with a primary focus on the corrosion and wear protection of light alloys, and has recently generated interest as a promising surface treatment for biomedical applications.
To justify the industrial application of PEO, a more systematic and in-depth study …
