Impact Of Critical Path Method (Cpm) Of Scheduling On On-Time Completion Of Transportation Projects, Fahim Ahmed
Impact Of Critical Path Method (Cpm) Of Scheduling On On-Time Completion Of Transportation Projects, Fahim Ahmed
Theses and Dissertations
This study addresses the effectiveness of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling on project delivery. Specifically, the on-time completion of projects with and without a CPM schedule is explored. The paper uses data from 2,097 South Carolina transportation projects let after February 2008 and substantially completed by August 2015. The delay analysis uses the original contract completion date as well as the completion date adjusted by change orders. Chi-Squared tests are used to examine the relationship between CPM scheduled projects and delayed projects, and t-tests are used to compare the mean delay (in days) between CPM scheduled and unscheduled projects. The …
Probabilistic Multilevel Constitutive Model Of The Compressive Strength Of Hardened Cement Paste Reinforced With Mwcnts, Yohanna Mejia Cruz
Probabilistic Multilevel Constitutive Model Of The Compressive Strength Of Hardened Cement Paste Reinforced With Mwcnts, Yohanna Mejia Cruz
Theses and Dissertations
Constitutive models available in the literature typically describe the compressive strength of ordinary Portland cement paste (OPC) in a deterministic fashion, in some cases as a function of variables such as W/C, porosity, and the clinker chemical composition. The significant effect of the proportion of W/C on the final strength, porosity and density have been reported in several works in material science. Some studies have shown that the addition of MWCNTs can also modify the microstructure of cement significantly, and improve compressive strength and other mechanical and physical properties. In principle, W/C, MWCNTs addition, porosity, density, and compressive strength are …
Value Added Products From Lignin And Biomass Derivatives, Chen Li
Value Added Products From Lignin And Biomass Derivatives, Chen Li
Civil & Environmental Engineering Theses & Dissertations
Pyrolysis is one of the traditional lignin and biomass utilization methods. The liquid products bio-oil and solid products bio-char are the main value-added products from lignin pyrolysis. Due to the narrow application and low quality, using the pyrolysis method to produce bio-oil and bio-char cannot bring sufficient economic benefits. In this dissertation, two methods were investigated to improve the quality of lignin bio-products.
Instead of direct pyrolysis, chemical activation (pyrolysis) was introduced in this dissertation. Compared to bio-char, the lignin chemical activation product lignin-activated-carbon has better economic value. With the best activation conditions, the lignin-activated-carbon produced a surface area of …

High Resolution Sensing Of Nitrate Dynamics In A Mixed-Use Appalachian Watershed: Quantifying Nitrate Fate And Transport As Influenced By A Backwater Riparian Wetland, Alexandria Kosoma Jensen
High Resolution Sensing Of Nitrate Dynamics In A Mixed-Use Appalachian Watershed: Quantifying Nitrate Fate And Transport As Influenced By A Backwater Riparian Wetland, Alexandria Kosoma Jensen
Theses and Dissertations--Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering
As harmful algal blooms begin to appear in unexpected places such as rivers in predominantly forested systems, a better understanding of the nutrient processes within these contributing watersheds is necessary. However, these systems remain understudied. Utilization of high-resolution water quality data applied to deterministic numerical modeling has shown that a 0.42% watershed area backwater riparian wetland along the Ohio River floodplain can attenuate 18.1% of nitrate discharged from local mixed-use watersheds and improves in performance during high loading times due to coinciding increased hydrological connectivity and residence times of water in these wetlands. Loading from the Fourpole Creek watershed was …

A qualitative content analysis and quantitative descriptive analysis based on demographics are conducted to establish a better understanding of BIM and Construction Performance. The academic perspective is used to assess the relevance of BIMM and CKPI indicators, and the practitioner perspective is …
Ucs And Cbr Behaviour Of Perth Sandy Soil Reinforced With Waste Tyre Fibres And Cement, Seyed M. A. Bazazorde
Ucs And Cbr Behaviour Of Perth Sandy Soil Reinforced With Waste Tyre Fibres And Cement, Seyed M. A. Bazazorde
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Weak and unsuitable soil conditions have always caused problems for civil engineers during the construction of structures. To avoid problems in a cost-effective manner, proper and reliable solutions need to be developed. Fibre reinforcement and cement stabilisation are the most efficient and common methods in geotechnical engineering applications when engineers have problematic soil conditions. These methods can be used in different applications, such as pavement layers, retaining walls and slopes.
Over the past three decades, many studies have been done to investigate the effects of adding synthetic and natural fibres to soil as the reinforcing material alone or with cement. …
Using Agricultural Wastes To Treat Lead-Contaminated Water In Western Australia, Hanie Hashtroudi
Using Agricultural Wastes To Treat Lead-Contaminated Water In Western Australia, Hanie Hashtroudi
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Aqueous solutions are becoming increasingly contaminated in all parts of the world (2015). Heavy metals are toxic contaminants that are mainly distributed in urban stormwater run-off and industrial wastewaters as a result of some mining operations, electronic assembly planting, battery manufacturing, and etching operations (Kadirvelu et al. 2001). Pb (II) is a heavy metal that causes significant damage in the human body. Drinking lead-contaminated water even at low concentrations may cause lifethreatening conditions such as cancer, kidney damage, brain damage, and liver problems (El-Said 2010). Therefore, it is necessary to remove lead from aqueous solutions.
Several conventional physical, chemical, and …
Liner Characterisation And Leak Detection Using Electrical Resistivity Techniques, Lopa M S Pandey
Liner Characterisation And Leak Detection Using Electrical Resistivity Techniques, Lopa M S Pandey
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
The resistivity of soil ranges from 7-15 Ωm for Leachate #1 to 20-50 Ωm for Leachate #2. The resistivity decreases with an increase in the proximity to the leak point. Furthermore, the resistivity values obtained with water were nearly 10 times the values observed with landfill leachate as the leaching liquid. Based on the resistivity profiles of soil as observed at different time intervals, the method is found to be effective in determining leakages in the liner.
The test results have also been presented for the leakage of Bayer liquor obtained from aluminium manufacturing company in Western Australia. The resistivity …
Tire-Derived Geo-Cylinders And Polymer Products For Enhancing The Properties Of Base/Sub Base Materials In Pavement Systems, Justin Scott Smith
Tire-Derived Geo-Cylinders And Polymer Products For Enhancing The Properties Of Base/Sub Base Materials In Pavement Systems, Justin Scott Smith
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
As a critical part of the transportation network, pavements offer a safe means for vehicular traffic. Pavements are subjected to many forms of stress during their service life, and they are susceptible to environment related cracking and failures. Failures can be attributed to poor subgrade, freeze-thaw variations, and fatigue under repetitive axle loadings. Reinforcement products such as tire-derived geo-cylinders (TDGC) which make-up mechanical concrete and geo-polymers have been utilized in civil engineering practice, and this research aims to understand the potential life of tested pavement system components set at displacement limitations when reinforced with TDGCs and geo-polymers from exposure to …
