Mansoura Engineering Journal

Construction industry is the most contributor to the environmental impacts. Achieving sustainability in construction is complicated, but one of the most optimal strategies is selecting sustainable building materials.

The major goal of this study is to present a new idea for choosing sustainable building materials (SBMs) by simulating sustainability parameters' behaviour. This research proposes a System Dynamics (SD) model along with the TOPSIS method based on the dynamic interactions among a number of sustainable criteria to help decision makers in sustainable building materials selection. The sustainable criteria that form system boundary are determined from previous studies and experts′ opinions. The …

Modified Hcm Method For Delay Estimation At Unsignalized T- Intersections: A Case Study From Delta Region, Egypt, Ahmed Mohsen Geweda, Sayed A. Shwaly, Usama Elrawy Shahdah Jan 2023

Modified Hcm Method For Delay Estimation At Unsignalized T- Intersections: A Case Study From Delta Region, Egypt, Ahmed Mohsen Geweda, Sayed A. Shwaly, Usama Elrawy Shahdah

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This study proposes a modified gap acceptance method to estimate control delay at unsignalized intersections in Egypt. The Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) method for estimating control delay at unsignalized intersections assumes that all lower-ranking movements yield completely to higher-ranking movements. However, this assumption may not be valid in Egypt, where drivers in lower-ranking movements sometimes violate right-of-way. The proposed method introduces an adjustment factor to account for the amount of real priority that higher-ranking movements actually get from lower-ranking movements. The adjustment factor was developed based on data collected from three un-signalized T-intersections from Mansoura and Damietta cities in Egypt. …

Computational Fluid Dynamics Investigation Of Flow Through Pneumatic Control Valve, Wael Elmayyah

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Low-cost on-off pneumatic directional control valves are widely used with digital control circuits to control the position or the speed of pneumatic actuators. These valves have a limited flow capacity that hinders the system fast response. Therefore, deeper understanding of the internal air flow through the valve and its interaction with valve geometry will allow further performance improvement according to the required application.

In this paper, a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model for a low-cost internal pilot, electrically operated pneumatic 3/2 directional control valve has been developed to investigate the effect of the valve's geometry on the valve's outlet flow …

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Anemia Disease (AD) is one of the most common blood problems in the world. According to the World Health Organization, it leads to lack of oxygen and red blood cells. The problem of classifying anemia is crucial in prescribing an appropriate treatment plan. Unfortunately, it is difficult to accurately diagnose the type of anemia as early as possible in order to properly treat the patient. Such a diagnosis can be complicated by the exponential increase in patient numbers, priority rules set by hospitals, and issues of access to adequate medical professionals. This paper proposes the use of a computer-based model …

Zero-Sequence Current In Cable Systems: A Study, Shimaa A. F. Salem, Rabab R. M. Eiada, Ebrahim A. Badran

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Large zero-sequence current is not a new phenomenon for cable bus duct systems; the question is what influences its magnitude. It was found that the zero-sequence currents were circulating between different circuits in the cable system and that they were being generated by induction between phases in the same cable route. It was determined that the zero-sequence currents could be greatly reduced in a twin circuit by symmetrical configuration of the cables. However, in a four-circuit system, no significant reduction could be achieved even by the symmetrical configuration. Therefore, in this paper, this phenomenon will be analyzed and discussed. ATPDraw …

Swarm Intelligence For Solving Some Nonlinear Differential Equations, Ahmed Elzaghal, Mohammed Mohammed Elgamal, Ahmed H. Eltanboly

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The Euler method is a well-known numerical technique employed for solving initial value problems of ordinary differential equations. The solution obtained through Euler's method is subject to significant inaccuracies, which tend to amplify with each successive iteration. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is a highly effective method for finding optimal solutions to both linear and nonlinear optimization problems. In this particular investigation, the PSO technique was utilized to solve initial value problems associated with ordinary differential equations. The Euler method, on the other hand, employs equidistant grid points to approximate solutions, which can result in significant errors and a …

Enhancement In Strength Parameters Of Mortar By Application Of Bacillus Bacteria, A.A. Maaty, M.F. Ghazy, Y. El-Halmouch, G.R. Gadallah

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Cracks in concrete often occur because of environmental factors like moisture, chemical attacks, and temperature changes. This study investigates utilizing microbial induced calcite precipitation (MICP) to address concrete cracking. Bacillus Sphaericus strain is introduced into cement mortar to enhance its physical and mechanical properties, focusing on crack healing. (MICP) microbial induced calcite precipitation reduces water absorption and capillary coefficient by filling cracks with calcium carbonate using bacterial nutrients. After a duration of 90 days, the bacterial samples exhibit a noteworthy decrease in both capillary action and water absorption when contrasted with the control samples. The bacterial mortar demonstrates accelerated progress …

Indoor Pedestrian Navigation Using Pdr/Wi-Fi Integration, Ahmad Yhaya, Ehab H. Abdelhay, Mohammed A. H. Abozied, Ahmed Shaaban Samra

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Positioning of pedestrians is a challenging problem. Especially, in case of global positioning system (GPS) signal outage inside buildings. The inertial navigation system (INS) systems are always used to detect the motion of the human body by placing inertial measurement unit (IMU) in a specific part of the human body. However, using IMU alone will not produce proper navigation solution with sufficient accuracy due to gradually accumulated errors of IMU stochastic drift, noise, and state integration with time. Which lead the recent researchers to enhance the performance of indoor navigation systems using aiding sources such as received signal strength (RSS) …
