Improving Square Skirted Foundations Behavior On Sand, Tamer Al-Shyoukhi, Ayman Altahrany, Mahmoud Elmeligy

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Shallow foundations' behavior is enhanced by using skirts to confine the soil beneath the foundation. The bearing capacity and settlement of skirted foundations resting on the sand are influenced by the size of the skirt cell and shear strength of sand. Experimental modelling was carried out on an axially square-skirted footing resting on sand in this study. Plaxis-3D software was used for numerical analysis to support the experimental results. The numerical analysis results validated the experimental results. The outcomes of the study demonstrated that skirts wider than the footing size increased the bearing capacity of skirted foundations. In the case …

Part 2: Proposed Buckling Factor For Columns In Braced And Unbraced Frames With Composite Girders, S.A. Eltawil, N.S. Mahmoud, S.M. Abdrabou

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The influence of composite girders on the modified buckling factor for columns was investigated in both braced and unbraced frames. The composite girders' end conditions were represented as rigid and hinged . Furthermore, based on the proposed stiffness parameter, the derived formulation follows the same assumptions as the standard effective length factor (K-factor). Moreover, the suggested buckling factor equations for composite girders in braced and unbraced frames were obtained using the slope-deflection method. Concerning the unbraced frame, the proposed buckling factor of columns restrained by the composite girder improves the effective length calculation and makes for a more accurate and …

Gravimetric Geoid For Egypt Based On Properly Application Of Helmet's Method Of Condensations With Window Remove-Restore Technique, Atef Makhloof, Hussein A. Abd-Elmotaal, Mostafa Ashry

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This study uses the window-method for merging the gravity field wavelengths inside the remove-restore technique (RRT) to get the gravimetric geoid for Egypt using Helmert's models of condensation. In this case, the window approach (Abd-Elmotaal and Kühtreiber, 2003) was utilized to avert taking the topographic-condensation masses into account twice inside the data frame. A gravimetric geoid for Egypt has been calculated utilizing Helmert's first and second condensations approach and Airy- Heiskanen model. Within the context of the geoid computation, a thorough comparison between the various Helmert approaches and Airy-Heiskanen has been made. The comparison uses the estimated geoid indicators before …

Exact/Partial Cipher-Text Retrieval On The Encrypted Cloud Database Using Sckha Algorithm, Samia Souror, Mohammed Badawy, Nawal El-Fishawy

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Searchable encryption techniques are intelligent tools that attempt to solve the challenge of querying stored data on untrusted cloud servers while preserving data confidentiality. This paper proposes simple, powerful, and practical Searchable Symmetric Encryption (SSE) scheme which capable of executing SQL (Structural Query Language) queries over encrypted cloud databases. Our scheme improves the efficiency of the search over encrypted data by using the SCKHA (Symmetric Cipher based on Key Hashing Algorithm) algorithm instead of using the bloom filter technique which causes the problem of the false positives. We built a complicated index structure for the encrypted data by combining the …

Mansoura Engineering Journal

A biometric system based on the characteristics of adults recently achieved an outstanding result. Over the last few decades, many applications have been developed for adults, such as fingerprint, face, iris, and hand-vein. Infant identification suffers from many problems and does not enroll all possible ages. Identifying children using one or any biometric features is the first step in ensuring that they are recognized before the law and that their rights are guaranteed. From another perspective, this prevents baby swaps in hospitals, Identifying Missing Children, and Civil ID Programs. This paper introduces an approach for Multimodal Biometric Recognition for Toddlers …

A Method For Economic Expansion Planning Of Transmission Networks Using Heuristic Rules And Non-Linear Optimization Model, Maged Gamal Lotfy, Mahmoud Ali Farrag, Mohamed Shibl Albags, Ahmed Hamdy Khalil

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This paper presents a method for economic planning of transmission networks in an iterative manner. The method is capable of solving large scale networks where the most "worst" new lines are deleted iteratively using heuristic rules. In each iteration, a relatively small size non-linear mathematical Programming model is built to enhance the deletion process. The non-linear model is based on full AC load flow where only the reactive power injected from different available reactive power sources are controlled plus the reference bus voltage magnitude. The deletion process is stopped when the deleting of any line from the rest set of …

Extreme weather can have a substantial influence on a power system's operational resilience since they are high-impact, low-probability (HILP) events. Therefore, Power systems must be resilient to HILP incidents in addition to being reliable against widely spread and credible threats. Despite the rarity of such events, the severity of their potential impact necessitates the development of appropriate resilience assessment tools to capture their implications and enhance the resilience of energy infrastructure systems. In this paper, a probabilistic strategy is proposed to assess and evaluate the operational resilience of power distribution networks against the impacts of HILP events depending on value-at-risk …

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Various types of formworks are available in the market for construction of cast-in-place concrete structures. Formwork has a significant impact on both construction time and cost. As such, decision making on the optimal formwork system is difficult and timeconsuming for designers or planners particularly for high-rise buildings, where any reduction in the cost of single-story formwork significantly decrease total construction cost. Formworks must be designed effectively as numerous accidents have happened as a result of poor design decisions. This article presents a Genetic Algorithm optimization model to select the optimal formwork system among Cuplock, Shore brace and Props systems that …
