Adaptive ultra-wideband wireless body area networks have been proposed as one of feasible mHealth platforms offering a high-speed, robust mobile health service. The error performance of such sytems outperforms non-adaptive systems by up to 4 dB. To further improve the error performance, the optimization of adaptive parameters is investigated in this paper. Simulation results show that the proposed optimal adaptive systems achieves a 2 dB gain with respect to bit error rate (BER). This improvement is equivalent to extra reduction of the power consumption up to 37% in these networks, thus increasing the longevity and reliability of mHealth services.

Carbon nanotube (CNT) yarns are novel CNT-based materials that extend the advantages of CNT from the nanoscale to macroscale applications. In this study, we have modeled CNT yarns as potential data transmission lines. Test structures have been designed to measure electrical properties of CNT yarns, which are attached to these test structures using gold paste. DC testing and microwave S-parameter measurements have been conducted for characterization. Broadcast is a fundamental operation in wireless networks. To this end, many past studies have studied the NP-hard, broadcast problem for always-on multi-hop networks. However, in wireless sensor networks, nodes are powered by batteries, meaning, they have finite energy. In a recent paper, Jiang et al. proposed a smart card based anonymous user authentication scheme for roaming service in global mobility networks. We report on the comparative study of magnetotransport properties of large-area vertical few-layer graphene networks with different morphologies, measured in a strong (up to 10 T) magnetic field over a wide temperature range. The petal-like and tree-like graphene networks grown by a plasma enhanced CVD process on a thin (500 nm) silicon oxide layer supported by a silicon wafer demonstrate a significant difference in the resistance-magnetic field dependencies at temperatures ranging from 2 to 200 K. This behaviour is explained in terms of the effect of electron scattering at ultra-long reactive edges and ultra-dense boundaries of the graphene nanowalls. Our …

This paper introduces a novel cost sensitive weighted samples approach to a cascade of Graph Neural Networks for learning from imbalanced data in the graph structured input domain. This is shown to be very effective in addressing the effects of imbalanced data distribution on learning systems. The proposed idea is based on a weighting mechanism which forces the network to encode misclassified graphs (or nodes) more strongly. Opinions of individuals in real social networks are arguably strongly influenced by external determinants, such as the opinions of those perceived to have the highest levels of authority. In order to model this, we have extended an existing model of consensus formation in an adaptive network by the introduction of a parameter representing each agent's level of 'authority' based on their opinion relative to the overall opinion distribution. We found that introducing this model, along with a randomly varying opinion convergence factor, significantly impacts the final state of converged opinions and the number of interactions required to reach that state. …

This paper considers the problem of deriving a link schedule for Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA)-based concurrent transmit/receive Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) that results in low end-to-end delays as well as high network capacity. We first propose a MAX-CUT heuristic approach, called Algo-2, that maximizes link activations in each slot of a super-frame. Hierarchical networks with highly interconnected V2O5 nanosheets (NSs) anchored on skeletons of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are prepared by a facile hydrothermal treatment and a following calcination for the first time. Benefiting from these unique structural features, the as-prepared CNT@V2O5 material shows dramatically excellent electrochemical performance with remarkable long cyclability (137-116 mA h g-1 after 400 cycles) at various high rates (20 C to 30 C) and very good rate capability for highly reversible lithium storage. The excellent electrochemical performance suggests its promising use as a cathode material for future lithium-ion batteries.

This paper examines the impact of speed limits on network efficiency, in terms of total travel time of all road users, and equity among road users from different origin-destination (OD) pairs, in terms of the change of travel time after imposing a speed limit scheme. In wireless communication, idle listening, receiving and transmitting are the main source of consumption of energy. This paper gives an overview of several techniques used for wireless networks. We incorporated PSM and PC to gain the advantage of PSM (reduce idle listening) and PC (reduce receiving and transmitting power) and implemented them in the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol. The first stage consists of extracting a set of features from the wavelet-based edge map. Such features are then used to identify the type of degradation using Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA). Many simulations of networks in computational neuroscience assume completely homogenous random networks of the Erdös–Rényi type, or regular networks, despite it being recognized for some time that anatomical brain networks are more complex in their connectivity and can, for example, exhibit the “scale-free” and “small-world” properties. We review the most well known algorithms for constructing networks with given non-homogeneous statistical properties and provide simple pseudo-code for reproducing such networks in software simulations. We also review some useful mathematical results and approximations associated with the statistics that describe these network models, including degree distribution, average path length, and clustering coefficient. Owning to its clinical accessibility, T1-weighted MRI has been extensively studied for the prediction of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). The tissue volumes of GM, WM and CSF are the most commonly used measures for MCI and AD prediction. We note that disease-induced structural changes may not happen at isolated spots, but in several inter-related regions. Therefore, in this paper we propose to directly extract the inter-region connectivity based features for MCI prediction. This involves constructing a brain network for each subject, with each node representing an ROI and each edge representing regional interactions. This network is …
