A new approach to toughen anionically polymerized polyamide 6 (aPA6) was applied using reaction induced phase separation (RIPS). This method solved issues with particle dispersion, mixture viscosity, and additive concentration common with conventional rubber toughening thereby making it an ideal candidate for fiber reinforced aPA6 reaction injection molding (RIM). Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) was used as a functional additive that undergoes RIPS during aPA6 polymerization and polymerizes to polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Controlled phase separation, modulus retention, and increased crystallinity were achieved at low additive concentrations. Optimal properties were achieved with 2 wt% D4. Fuel cells are one of the oldest sustainable energy generation devices, converting chemical energy into electrical energy via reverse-electrolysis reactions. With the rapid development of polymer science, solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) membranes replaced the conventional liquid ion transport media, rendering low-temperature fuel cells more accessible for applications in portable electronics and transportation. In this thesis, a reduced-order model is constructed to study the physiological flow and wall shear stress conditions for aneurysms. The method of local proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is used to construct the reduced-order modes using a series of CFD results, which are subsequently improved using a QR-factorization technique to satisfy the various boundary conditions in physiological flow problems. This method can effectively construct a computationally efficient physiological model, which allows us to examine the fluid velocities and wall shear stress distributions over a range of different physiological flow parameters. To metastasize, a cell must travel through circulation to a secondary tissue, and this process causes 90% of all cancer deaths. Although inefficient, metastasis is not random, and only capable seeds in hospitable soils are capable of outgrowing into detectable metastases. The overall hypothesis in this work is that the secondary tissue microenvironment, particularly the extracellular matrix (ECM), mediates metastasis. We posit that the ability of metastatic cells to survive dormancy, exit quiescence, and colonize a tissue depends upon the ability of the soil to sustain survival, and subsequently trigger outgrowth. Live load distribution factors are used to determine the live-load moment for bridge girder design when a two dimensional analysis is conducted. A simple, analysis of bridge superstructures are considered to determine live-load factors that can be used to analyze different types of bridges. The distribution of the live load factors distributes the effect of loads transversely across the width of the bridge superstructure by proportioning the design lanes to individual girders through the distribution factors.

This protection is often provided by FPGA-based encrypt/decrypt cores secured with secret keys. Physical unclonable functions (PUFs) use random manufacturing variations to generate outputs that can be used in keys. These outputs are specific to a chip and can be used to create device-tied secret keys. Due to reliability issues with PUFs, key generation with PUFs typically requires error correction techniques. The cold spray process is an additive manufacturing technology primarily suited for ductile metals, and mainly utilized in coating surfaces, manufacturing of freeform parts and repair of damaged components. The process involves acceleration of solid micro-particles in a supersonic gas flow and coating build-up by bonding upon high velocity impact onto a substrate. Coating deposition relies on the kinetic energy of the particles. The goal of this thesis is to develop a soft multiple-degree-of-freedom (multi-DOF) load cell that is robust and light weight for use in robotics applications to sense three axes of force and a single axis of torque. The displacement of the magnet within the elastomer changes the magnetic flux density which is sensed by two 3-axis Hall effect sensors. Connection setup in software-defined networks (SDN) requires considerable amounts of processing, communication, and memory resources. Attackers can target SDN controllers defense mechanism based on a proof-of-work protocol. This thesis proposes a new protocol to protect controllers against such attacks, shows implementation of the system and analyze the its performance. Using the full Lifshitz continuum formulation, this thesis investigates the effects of system materials, shapes, and configurations and presents open-source software to accurately calculate vdW interactions. Many packaged foods use synthetic chelators (e.g. ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, EDTA) to inhibit metal promoted oxidation and/or microbial growth that may cause food spoilage. Consumer demand for foods without synthetic additives has prompted growing interest in alternative preservation methods.
