Guided Data Augmentation For Improved Semi-Supervised Image Classification In Low Data Regime., Fadoua Khmaissia

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Deep learning models have achieved state of the art performances, especially for computer vision applications. Much of the recent successes can be attributed to the existence of large, high quality, labeled datasets. However, in many real-world applications, collecting similar datasets is often cumbersome and time consuming. For instance, developing robust automatic target recognition models from infrared images still faces major challenges. This is mainly due to the difficulty of acquiring high resolution inputs, sensitivity to the thermal sensors' calibration, meteorological conditions, targets' scale and viewpoint invariance. Ideally, a good training set should contain enough variations within each class for the …

Tumor Targeting Gold Nanoparticles For Delivery Of Rna And Dna Oligonucleotide Therapies For Glioblastoma., Nicholas Allen May 2023

Tumor Targeting Gold Nanoparticles For Delivery Of Rna And Dna Oligonucleotide Therapies For Glioblastoma., Nicholas Allen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Glioblastoma (GBM) brain tumors are highly aggressive gliomas due to genetic and cellular heterogeneity. Current GBM treatment consists of surgical resection of the tumor combined with radio- or chemo-therapies. While these treatments have increased the life expectancy for GBM patients up to 20 months, they have had little effect on the 5-year survival rate. The complex cellular and genetic composition of the tumor makes current treatments less effective long term. One approach to developing more effective GBM treatments is to customize nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems that can directly target the aberrant gene expression patterns within a particular GBM tumor. Delivery …

Chloramine Devulcanization Of Waste Rubber., Patrick Kroeger May 2023

Chloramine Devulcanization Of Waste Rubber., Patrick Kroeger

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The disposal of waste rubber, particularly tire rubber, continues to pose a challenge in the 21st century. As a result, most end-of-life tires (ELTs) are either dumped in landfills or burned as tire-derived fuel. Chloramine devulcanization may offer a viable solution to this problem. Chloramine devulcanization is a low-temperature, low-pressure, process that selectively breaks sulfur crosslinks while preserving the polymer backbone. Chloramine devulcanization enables the recovery of chloramine recovered carbon black (CrCB) and devulcanized rubber (CdR) as separate products. Initial analysis of CdR revealed that it was formable and malleable, suggesting that crosslinking was absent. Spectroscopy showed that CdR contained …
