Synthesis Of The Lifepo_4 By Co Reduction:Reaction Mechanism And Kinetics, Yun-Hua Chen, Yong Yang

Journal of Electrochemistry

LiFePO4 cathode material was synthesized by CO reducing FePO4 and LiOH precursors. The structure, morphology and electrochemical performances of such LiFePO4 material were characterized by XRD,SEM and charge-discharge tests. It was shown that the particle size of the LiFePO4 synthesized with 5% excess of LiOH in the precursor was about 200 nm.By carbon coating, the LiFePO4 electrode was able to deliver a reversible capacity of 158 mAh·g-1 at 0.1C discharge rate.Temperature-programmed X-ray diffraction was employed to monitor the reaction during the formation of LiFePO4,and Li3Fe2(PO4)3 was found to be an intermediate by analyzing the time-resolved XRD patterns.Kinetic study indicates that nucleation and their growth …

Primary Study Of Tiron As Active Materials For The Redox Flow Battery, Yan Xu, Yue-Hua Wen, Jie Cheng, Yu-Sheng Yang, Zi-Li Xie

Journal of Electrochemistry

Effects of solution pH on the electrochemical behavior of tiron(sodium 4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-benzendisulfonic) couple(on a graphite electrode) were studied by cyclic voltammetry in aqueous solutions. It is shown that at pH<4,tiron exhibited a redox process at a relatively high potential with a good reversibility.A redox flow battery was formed employing tiron as the positive active species and V(III)/V(II) as the negative redox couple. In sulfuric acid medium, the coulombic efficiency of the tiron-V redox flow cell was more than 90% with a good cycle life. The decay in the cycle performance was minimal. Therefore, the feasibility of tiron as active materials for redox flow battery application is demonstrated.

Journal of Electrochemistry

The chloroperoxidase(CPO) was immobilized onto the surface of SWNTs modified electrodes. The electrochemical behaviors of modified electrode have been investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The appearance of a pair of well-defined redox peaks in the CV curve indicated that SWNTs can promote the electron transfer reaction of CPO.The results of cyclic voltammetry in PBS of different pH,from 3~9,showed that the reaction of CPO on the modified electrode was with equal numbers of electron and protein. This readily prepared SWNTs modified electrode showed excellent stability and good catalysis to O2.

Methyl laurate is then separated by method based on the difference in melting point. This research focuses at determining the effects of some variables in transesterification on the concentration of produced methyl laurate. The variables are temperature (40 oC, 50 oC, 60 oC, 80 oC), time of transesterification reaction (0,5 hour, 1 hour, …

Makara Journal of Technology

Cracks was found in type 347 stainless steel internal attachment welds of a reactor for a high temperature, and high pressure hydrogen service. One of the possible causes of cracking is low cycle fatigue cracking induced by repetition of thermal stress to embrittled weld metal. Type 347 weld metal loses its ductility by presence of sigma phase and hydrogen.

Makara Journal of Technology

Phase Unwrapping InSAR Image Using Local Energy Minimization Approach. Reconstruction process of phase data from its cover is called Phase Unwrapping (PU). Ideally, without any noise phrase, singularity, and aliasing problems, the phase information can be unwrapped easily. However, in fact, the phase data actually always get noise disturbance and discontinuity. The PU process becomes more complicated and needs a better PU algorithm to address the problems properly. In this research, the local PU algorithm is developed using minimization of close related firstorder pixels energy approach. In this method, the energy difference between four close related pixels is counted, followed …

Spectral Response Surfaces And The Ringing Response Of Offshore Structures, I Ketut Suastika

Makara Journal of Technology

A method, called spectral response surface method, is proposed for the study of the ringing phenomenon of offshore structures. Newman’s results for diffraction force on a column were reformulated in terms of the frequency components of the ocean surface and their Hilbert transforms. Using a first-order reliability method together with a dynamic model for the structural response, it is straightforward to calculate the ocean surface history most likely to generate an extreme ringing response and the ringing response history.

Assessing Pedagogy In Bioengineering Classrooms: Quantifying Elements Of The “How People Learn” Model Using The Vanth Observation System (Vos), Monica F. Cox, David S. Cordray

School of Engineering Education Faculty Publications

One goal of the VaNTH Engineering Research Center is to estimate the effects of the “value added” to bioengineering student learning as a result of “How People Learn” (HPL) framework interventions. A necessary step in that process is to assess pedagogical differences in both lecture-based and HPL-oriented courses. Data from 28 bioengineering courses, over five semesters, were analyzed using a newly developed HPL Index. This index, developed from the Classroom Interaction Observation portion of the VaNTH Observation System, reports levels of HPL-inspired pedagogy, traditional pedagogy, and classroom organization within a class using codes for different types of faculty and student …

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

In this paper an attempt has been made to study the rheological effects of micropolar fluid lubricants on the steady state and dynamic behavior of porous slider bearings by considering the squeezing action. The general modified Reynolds-type equation of porous sliding-squeezing surfaces with micropolar fluids is derived for the assessment of dynamic characteristics of bearings with general film thickness. The detailed analysis is presented for the plane inclined porous slider bearings by using perturbation method. Two Reynolds-type equations corresponding to steady performance and perturbed characteristics are obtained. The closed form solution of these equations is obtained. The numerical computations of …

Determining The Repair Ranking Of Existing Rc Bridges Using Multi-Pole Fuzzy Pattern Recognition Evaluation Method, Ming-Te Liang, Ting- Bang Chu, Wen-Hu Tsao, Chi-Jang Yeh

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

This paper proposes a technique for determining the repair ranking of existing reinforced concrete (RC) bridges using the multi-pole fuzzy pattern recognition evaluation method. The differences between bridges and grades are expressed by weighted generalized weight distance. To find the optimal relative membership degree of an evaluated bridge attributed to any grade, the operative principle is that the sum of the square of weighted generalized weight distance is minimum. Based on this principle, the problem of extreme value is established by the objective function in connection with constraint condition. Using the Lagrangean method, the multi-pole fuzzy pattern recognition evaluation method …
