Contrasting with shallow to moderately deep coalbed methane (CBM) reservoirs, deep CBM reservoirs exhibit favorable coal structures, high formation pressure, high free gas ratios, and high contents of total dissolved solids (TDS) and CO2. Extensive fracturing allows for CBM flowing at the initial stage, while the production parameters vary significantly throughout the CBM production. This requires wide technological boundaries of the main production technologies. Compared to shale gas and tight gas, deep CBM manifests different production mechanisms and relatively low free gas ratios, which lead to short flowing cycles of CBM. Deep coalbed methane (CBM) boasts abundant resources and great potential for exploitation. However, there is a lack of in-depth studies on the internal connections between deep and shallow CBM. This study investigated the Upper Paleozoic coalbed in the Ordos Basin. From the perspective of coalbed formation and evolution, it obtained three burial depth evolution modes of coalbed through summaries: both the maximum and present burial depths exceeding 2000 m, the maximum burial depth over 2000 m while the present burial depth less than 2000 m, and both the maximum and present burial depths less than 2000 m. Investigating the origin and accumulation mechanisms of CBM is crucial for the siting and assessment of these CBM resources. This study examined the CBM in low-rank coals in major gas-rich sags of the Erlian Basin through various experiments, including tests of the composition and carbon/hydrogen isotopes of CBM, as well as tests of the water quality, hydrogen/oxygen isotopes, and radioisotopes (3H and 14C) of coal seam water. Breakthroughs have been achieved in the high-yield gas flow of coalbed methane (CBM) wells with burial depths ranging from 1000 to 2500 m in the Cainan area of the Junggar Basin and the Daning-Jixian and southern Yanchuan blocks on the eastern margin of the Ordos Basin, signifying the enormous potential for the production of deep CBM. The results of a cost-effectiveness and economic efficiency assessment of the Hydraulic Borehole Mining (HBM) technology applied to lignite mining are presented. The Dynamic Generation Cost, the Net Present Value, and the Internal Rate of Return were calculated for the extraction of lignite at a rate of about 3.44 million Mg/year from a mining parcel of 1 2.5 km, taking into account CAPEX and OPEX. The cost of mining 1 Mg of lignite using the HBM technology was reported to be lower than its market prices before the energy crisis in Europe caused by the war in Ukraine. The values …

In mining, where production is affected by several factors, including equipment availability, it is necessary to develop reliable models to accurately predict mine production to improve operational efficiency. Hence, in this study, four (4) machine learning algorithms – namely: artificial neural network (ANN), random forest (RF), gradient boosting regression (GBR) and decision tree (DT)) – were implemented to predict mine production. The present study sought to determine the presence of metals and arsenic, a metalloid, among the fish of a coal mine reservoir, where the water was treated regularly through liming sedimentation combined with dredging, and the fish living in an adjoining river. The potential hazard of metals in fish as human food was analyzed. Except for selenium (an important metal to the human body), which was higher among the river fish than in the reservoir fish (P < 0.01), there were no particular patterns of other studied metals found in either habitat (P > 0.05), and apparently not related to the fish family that consumed by local people. Gas and rock outbursts are one of the most unpredictable natural hazards in Polish and worldwide underground mining. The complexity and unpredictability of this phenomenon make forecasting and underground prevention difficult to achieve. Gas-geodynamic phenomenon occurs in greater intensity in the southern part of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin (USCB) – close to the Bzie-Czechowice fault zone. The relatively low firmness of coal combined with high methane content and pressure may result in a coal seam outburst. Sinters of geothermal system are usually dominated by travertine and siliceous sinter. With rich information on multi-temporal and spatial scales, they can be used to restore paleohydrological and paleoclimatic histories, reconstruct the evolutionary process of regional hydrothermal activity, and constrain tectonic modes. Accurate dating of sinters is the basis of relevant researches. Common dating methods include radiocarbon dating (based on inorganic and organic carbon), uranium series disequilibrium dating, cosmogenic nuclide dating, optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating, and electron spin resonance dating.
