Baja Motherboard, Jay Henry Kahling V, Kyle Robert Tse

Electrical Engineering

The Baja Racing Motherboard is a compact PCB device that connects multiple electronics modules together in order to control the Baja SAE vehicle’s transmission. It uses multiple buck converters to regulate the voltage to microcontrollers, sensors, and multiple data logging devices while still being compact, lightweight, and serviceable. It uses IP-67 rated bulkheads to prevent water ingress in difficult conditions. The motherboard streamlines integration while still maintaining modularity, so when individual components are damaged the whole system need not be fully scrapped. The motherboard will save future team members time, money, and effort as it is a modular device that …

An Experimental Investigation Of The New Vibration Viscometer, Jamshidbek Ulugbek Ugli Shamuratov

Technical science and innovation

The characteristics of the new oscillating-plate viscometer have been investigated experimentally. The results obtained are as follows: the resonant frequency of plate oscillation decreases with increasing viscosity; the apparatus constant 𝐾 determined experimentally includes the end and slip effects; the dimensions of the plate should be determined by referring to empirical relations between 𝜌𝜇 and Λ(≡{(𝐸𝑎𝐸)−1}𝑛) for various dimensions of the plate; where 𝜌 is the density, 𝜇 is the viscosity; 𝐸𝑎 the resonant amplitude of plate in the air; E the amplitude of plate in a liquid, and 𝑛 a constant. If the distance between the plate and the …

Mathematical Models Of New Magnetoelastic Sensor For Measure Of Power And Vibration Parameters, Javhar Sulton Ugli Fayzullayev

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

In the paper, the mathematical models of the new magnetoelastic sensor for measuring power and vibration parameters are developed taking into account the aggregation or scattering of the parameters of electromagnetic chains and the characteristics of the magnetization curve of the magnetic conductor material. The analysis of the generated mathematical models and graphs based on them showed that the magnetic chain in which the coils are assembled does not take into account the nonlinearity of the magnetization curve of the magnetic conductive material (electrotechnical steel), the result is 12 ÷ 15% of the experimental results. It varies by 6 ÷ …

Complete Measurement System For Measuring High Voltage And Electrical Field Using Slab-Coupled Optical Fiber Sensors, Nikola Stan Jan 2018

Complete Measurement System For Measuring High Voltage And Electrical Field Using Slab-Coupled Optical Fiber Sensors, Nikola Stan

Theses and Dissertations

A slab-coupled optical fiber sensor (SCOS) falls into a narrow class of all-dielectric optical fiber electric field sensors, which makes it a perfect candidate for measurements of high electric fields in environments where presence of conductors is highly perturbing to the system under test. Its nonlinear response to high fields requires a new nonlinear calibration technique. A nonlinear calibration method is explained and demonstrated to successfully measure high electric fields, as well as high voltages with dynamic range up to 50 dB. Furthermore, a SCOS can be fitted into narrow spaces and make highly localized measurements due to its small …

High-Speed Switched Reluctance Machine: Natural Frequency Calculation And Acoustic Noise Prediction, Yusuf Yaşa, Yilmaz Sözer, Muhammet Gari̇p

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this study, an analytical model is proposed for natural frequency calculation and acoustic noise prediction for high speed switched reluctance machines. The developed natural frequency model results are compared with the mechanical finite element analysis results in terms of 6 different mode shapes that cause the majority of the acoustic noise in switched reluctance machines. The results show that the analytical results are consistent with the numerical method results with minimum 90% matching. Based on the natural frequency calculation model, a new acoustic noise prediction method is developed that only needs a radial force waveform as an input emerging …

Real-Time Sensing And Control Of Developing Weld Penetration Through Reflection Vibration In Gtaw, Jinsong Chen Jan 2017

Real-Time Sensing And Control Of Developing Weld Penetration Through Reflection Vibration In Gtaw, Jinsong Chen

Theses and Dissertations--Electrical and Computer Engineering

GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) weld pool surface is believed to contain sufficient information to determine the weld penetration, from which skilled welders are able to control the welding process to desired penetration states. However, it is unclear how human welders extract the weld penetration from the observed weld pool surface. In this research, a novel method is studied to determine the weld penetration based on the dynamic change of the weld pool surface.

This study observes/measures/analyzes the development of a weld pool from partial to full penetration and correlates such change to the weld penetration. Similar trends in the …

Practical Solutions To The Non-Minimum Phase And Vibration Problems Under The Disturbance Rejection Paradigm, Shen Zhao Jan 2012

Practical Solutions To The Non-Minimum Phase And Vibration Problems Under The Disturbance Rejection Paradigm, Shen Zhao

ETD Archive

This dissertation tackles two kinds of control problems under the disturbance rejection paradigm (DRP): 1) the general problem of non-minimum phase (NMP) systems, such as systems with right half plane (RHP) zeros and those with time delay 2) the specific problem of vibration, a prevailing problem facing practicing engineers in the real world of industrial control. It is shown that the DRP brings to the table a refreshingly novel way of thinking in tackling the persistently challenging problems in control. In particular, the problem of NMP has confounded researchers for decades in trying to find a satisfactory solution that is …

Evaluation Methods For Health Monitoring Of Aerospace Structure Rotary Joints, Sergio Armando Navarro

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

In September 2007, the excessive vibrations played a significant role in the station operation since one of the rotary joints, which provides the station electrical energy, presented an anomaly. The replacement of its bearing components and re-lubrication were necessary to reduce the problem. To avoid a new anomaly, the inspection of the rotary joints performance continues by using the accelerometers data. This thesis presents three new approaches to monitor the vibrations at the International Space Station based on Root-Mean-Square, kurtosis, and Approximate Entropy (ApEn). MATLAB functions and codes were necessary to implement the three monitoring techniques results from the provided …
