Salts Removal As An Effective And Economical Method Of Bakken Formation Treatment, Mousa Almousa, Olusegun Stanley Tomomewo, Yeo Howe Lim Aug 2023

Salts Removal As An Effective And Economical Method Of Bakken Formation Treatment, Mousa Almousa, Olusegun Stanley Tomomewo, Yeo Howe Lim

Civil Engineering Posters and Presentations

One of the main aims of managing and containing waste disposal in deep rock formations is to safeguard individuals, the surroundings, and the groundwater reserves The elevated salt content of the water produced by the rock formation necessitated an analysis of its chemical composition, including its major ion content, in order to understand the characteristics of the rock Additionally, the total dissolved solids ( in the ND Bakken formation are greater than 300 g/l, which is much higher than the concentration of salt in seawater therefore, it is reasonable to propose a modified process to treat the salts found in …

Sustainable Management Of Dams And Reservoirs In North Dakota: Sediment Transport Characterization, Adewale Ajao, Yeo Howe Lim Mar 2023

Sustainable Management Of Dams And Reservoirs In North Dakota: Sediment Transport Characterization, Adewale Ajao, Yeo Howe Lim

Civil Engineering Posters and Presentations

Selected reservoirs in the state of North Dakota was surveyed to assess their storage capacity, sedimentation characteristics, water quality parameters, and check for leakage. The purpose of the study is to understand the dynamic of reservoir sedimentation in North Dakota and the effect on its resiliency and sustainability. The HYCAT, which is an autonomous surface vehicle, was interfaced with a side scan sonar and global positioning system. The side scan sonar soundings at a determined frequency was used to measure reservoir bed level and deposited sediments while the positioning system would provide information along the grid lines. Additionally, this bathymetry …

A Simulation Way To Investigate The Reason For Congestion In Urban——A Case Study In Hohhot China, Junqing Wang, Hong Yang, Yuan Zhu, Qingwen Pu, Shunlai Cui

College of Engineering & Technology (Batten) Posters

In the case of high density traffic flow, traditional traffic data statistical analysis methods, which not only have certain errors and lead to inaccurate data, but also have many limitations such as labor consumption, can no longer meet the demand for traffic analysis. Drones for traffic data, based on an aerial bird's-eye view, no offset, and error-free complete statistics of urban road shooting section of all data, while greatly reducing cost consumption. A multi-dimensional simulation model is established for the UAV data to the Hohhot central urban area's road simulation platform. This project will test and explore multidimensional data in …

Investigating The Impacts Of Connected Vehicles On Driving Aggressiveness And Situational Awareness In Highway Crash Scenarios: A Driving Simulator Study, Abdalziz Alruwaili

College of Engineering & Technology (Batten) Posters

Psychological factors such as aggressiveness and situational awareness can impact driving performance. Connected vehicles (CV), equipped with advanced sensors and able to communicate safety messages to drivers, have the potential to influence driving performance by altering drivers’ aggressiveness and situational awareness. This paper aims to investigate the impacts of the CVs on driving aggressiveness and situational awareness in highway crash scenarios where a primary crash has already occurred, and a second crash may occur as a result. To achieve this goal, a driving simulator experiment was conducted, and questionnaires focused on driving aggressiveness and CV effectiveness were distributed. Structural equation …

Production Of Lithium Carbonate From Geothermal Brine By Selective Extraction Of Lithium Using A Novel Ion Sieve Method, Ujjwal Pokharel, Sandeep Kumar Jan 2023

Production Of Lithium Carbonate From Geothermal Brine By Selective Extraction Of Lithium Using A Novel Ion Sieve Method, Ujjwal Pokharel, Sandeep Kumar

College of Engineering & Technology (Batten) Posters

The project implements a novel approach to extract lithium from a geothermal brine with minimal water loss. Production of high-capacity lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for electric vehicles (EV) is believed to be the way to reduce dependence on fossil-fuel based vehicles. Currently, most of the lithium in the world comes from the mining of lithium or the evaporative/concentration of the brine. Mining is not environmentally friendly, and the evaporative process takes 12 months for the completion of the extraction process and results in a large amount of water loss which can lead to scarcity of water. The brines constitute 82% of …

Urban Air Mobility: Envisioning Uam As An Integrated Form Of Future Transport - A Las Vegas Case Study, Osarodion Victory Igbinobaro May 2022

Urban Air Mobility: Envisioning Uam As An Integrated Form Of Future Transport - A Las Vegas Case Study, Osarodion Victory Igbinobaro

Hospitality Design Graduate Student Capstones

Rapid urbanization has resulted in more people moving to cities to live and work. By 2030, an estimated 5 billion people will live in urban areas representing about 60% of the world's population. This increase in population growth brings forth new mobility challenges and opportunities for city planners, importantly, the challenge of transporting people and goods to their destinations in the most efficient, safe, quick and sustainable manner.

Traffic congestion, greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles, the cost of maintaining existing and building new transportation infrastructure are among several reasons why many cities seek sustainable alternatives to compliment their existing transport …

Improving Active Learning Through Advanced Teaching Practices On An Online Course, Jin Ouk O. Choi Jan 2022

Improving Active Learning Through Advanced Teaching Practices On An Online Course, Jin Ouk O. Choi

UNLV Best Teaching Practices Expo

Since the outbreak of the COVID, there has been a great need to advance learning experiences and opportunities for students when the courses are taught remotely. To address the need, the author incorporated the teaching strategies learned from the Culturally Relevant & Responsive Teaching (CRRT) fellows program supported by the NSF TRANSCEnD project. In Fall 2021, the author implemented multiple new teaching techniques and strategies in the CEM453-653 course, delivered entirely online. The specific teaching practices and technologies are: 1) Delivering lectures both live (synchronous) and recordings (asynchronous); 2) Using adaptive technology (Mentimeter & WebEx Poll) with real-time feedback; 3) …
