Factors That Contribute To A Successful Secondary Vocational Education Program In The State Of Mississippi, Erin Leigh Parker

This study was designed to assess and identify factors that make a vocational program successful. Using qualitative methods for collection and analysis of data, vocational instructors and students in programs identified to be successful were interviewed to better depict the classroom setting, teachers, methods, etc. of these successful programs. Participants included instructors of and students enrolled in secondary vocational programs in the state of Mississippi identified to be most successful according to C-PAS test scores in each of the following training areas: Building Trades (carpentry), Business and Computer Technology, Marketing Management Technology, and Allied Health. The purpose of this descriptive/causal-comparative study was to determine if relationships existed between individual personality types as determined by the Do What You Are (DWYA) on-line personality inventory and gender, ethnicity, area of academic study, entering and exiting grade point averages (GPA), and time to degree completion of undergraduate students at the case study institution.

Data were collected over a six year period by the institution's career development center. The student respondents were undergraduates and were self-selected to take the inventory. The sample included 2, 533 undergraduate students surveyed between 2003 and 2007.

The purpose of this project is to examine what strategies can be devised to transition those with learning disabilities into the workforce. This is accomplished by a qualitative review of the history of educational policies and programs used in England, France, Russia, China, Hong Kong, Kenya, and Nigeria. These strengths and weaknesses are compared with the history of policies implemented in the United States, to see what strategies can be used to affect policy changes that will better the chances for employment for those with learning disabilities.

Enhancing The Quality Of Vet In Hong Kong: Recent Reforms And New Initiatives In Widening Participation In Tertiary Qualifications, David Lim

As elsewhere, vocational education and training (VET) has a poor image in Hong Kong. To remove the stigma, the Vocational Training Council of Hong Kong embarked on pro‐active strategic planning to make it more relevant and cost‐effective, exposed long and widely held myths that VET is for dullards which leads only to low‐paid and low‐status jobs, provided a through‐train education system to ensure that VET is no longer an educational cul‐de‐sac, and sought external accreditation aggressively. Though it is early days, there is strong evidence that these strategies have worked.
