Students who have significant disabilities have the same aspirations as their non-disabled peers: living productive, enriched, and self-determined lives. Adolescent-to-adulthood transition services have the potential to help position students with disabilities to obtain the best possible outcomes, thereby helping them lead full and included adult lives. It is vital that school and community-based support professionals act in concert with students with significant disabilities and their families to develop and implement successful transition services. Youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have the poorest post-high school, or postsecondary, outcomes in comparison to their peers with and without disabilities. They experience low levels of engagement or even lack of engagement in employment, education, independent living, and community activities. As a result, these outcomes place a heavier load on families, professionals, and communities that support the ASD population throughout their lifespan. Therefore, the cost of taking care of this population is rising, with a current estimate of over $40 billion per year. The Relationship Between Thinking Style Differences And Career Choice For High-Achieving High School Students, Mihyeon Kim

The intent of this study was to study high achieving students' career decision-making associated with thinking styles and to examine factors influencing career choices. A causal-comparative research design and correlational research design were used, with a sample of 209 high school students. Data were gathered from two International Baccalaureate (TB) programs and a Governor's School Program. Students responded to two types of questionnaire---the Thinking Style Inventory, and A Questionnaire Related to Career Choices and Students' Sensitivity toward Environmental Forces.;The findings of this study demonstrated that the effect of program on different thinking styles was significant (p < .05), and the effect of gender on different thinking styles was significant ( p < .01). Also, the findings showed that an external thinking style was a good predictor for choosing the social science area for future careers. However, students with a higher external thinking style chose computer and math areas 73% less than students with lower external thinking style. Also, the findings of the study demonstrated that students' passion for a specific subject and family environment were also important factors influencing career choices of high achieving high school students.;The study suggested the importance of taking thinking styles into consideration for the career development of high-achieving adolescents. In addition, the environmental influences of parents, family, and schools are also important considerations for students' career development, along with students' inherent interest in a subject. Therefore, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors should recognize their own critical roles in shaping students' career development.

The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of change in corporate colleges between 1985 and 1989 and to examine the evolution of these institutions to structures and programs which more closely resemble traditional institutions of higher education. A random sample of three institutions was selected for analysis from the first of corporate colleges identified in the Carnegie Study, Corporate Classrooms: The Learning Business, conducted in 1985.;Data collection instruments were sent to 17 of the institutions identified in the Carnegie Study. of the institutions contacted, 11 responded which represented a return rate of 64.7 percent. The use of the Allied Health Professions Admissions Test (AHPAT) as an admission tool to upper level medical technology programs was compared against the most commonly accepted criteria of overall grade point average (OG) and science grade point average (SG). The comparison was based on how well each predicted success on the Board of Registry Exam of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. The sample population included admission and program data on 129 graduates of a University 2 + 2 Medical Technology Program from 1980 to 1986. The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship of aptitude and vocational interest to academic achievement of soldiers in entry-level job training programs at the US Army Quartermaster School. The study was designed to distinguish between soldiers who passed all course examinations and those who did not. The soldiers were expected to differ on selected measures of aptitude and vocational interest.;The courses were selected for study because approximately 50% of the soldiers enrolled failed one or more examinations on the first attempt and thus required some form of retraining.
