Participants in this session will first be presented with exemplar initiatives at public universities across Texas that are currently recognized as HSIs. These initiatives will focus on curricular updates, recruitment efforts, and campus physical culture. From these success stories, participants will have conversations about clearly defining purpose, pathways for implementation, how to address potential roadblocks, etc.

This study investigated the factors affecting American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) student success at a Native American Indian University (NAIU) in the Midwest. Thirty-nine students who graduated from Tribal College University (TCU) contributed to this study as they represented the student population at NAIU. This exploratory study was guided by three research questions that analyzed the collected data through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software tool. The two tools utilized in this study were the Pearson Correlation and the Independent Samples t-tests. The phenomenon of learning abroad will not diminish in an increasingly globalized economy and it is important to better understand the interconnectedness of relationships, benefits, and potential detriments in this growing area of education. This study is an exploration of conceptualizations of nationality in educational spaces from a transnational perspective. I create a co-constructed narrative with a transnational student that traverses the borders of two nations, while considering the relations and practices of her experiences in association to my own in order to better understand national identity formation as it is interconnected with formal and implicit curriculum.
