Implementation Theory And Determinants For Success: A Case Study Of Televised Distance Learning Implementation In An Urban University, Deanne Shuman
Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Management
The purpose of this study is to explore the implementation process of a distance learning initiative using televised instruction in an urban university. The scope and complexity of problems faced by colleges and universities today are growing, and public institutions are being asked to do more with less. Despite limited budgets and stretched resources, institutions are expected to be responsive to the challenges of change. Distance learning using televised instruction, which brings the classroom to the learner, is an available technology that can be responsive to students' diverse needs.
This study explores factors that facilitated or served as barriers in …

Designing A University Level Course: A Practical Approach, Joanne M. Riley
Designing A University Level Course: A Practical Approach, Joanne M. Riley
Joanne M. Riley
Teaching at the University level requires skills that are often outside the comfort and experience of many faculty, who have never been trained in basic pedagogical practice. A few guidelines based on learning theory and practical experience go a long way to ensure that college faculty have the tools they need to create a richly productive educational environment within which to teach and learn.

An Analysis Of Current Instructional Practices At Selected Universities Utilizing Interactive Television Technology, Richard Shengmao Chang
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The problem approached in this study was to compare the teaching methods, classroom management, attitudes, and demographics toward Interactive Television (ITV) classes, which were developed in the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and National Kaohsiung Normal University (NKNU) ITV programs.
The data were collected from UNI and NKNU ITV teachers and remote site students. Two-way ANOVA and Chi-Square tests were used to identify the differences between the two programs. The significant results are noted.
Both schools' ITV teachers clearly identified the objectives of the courses, presented materials in an organized way; and, effectively employed visual teaching aids, summarizing techniques, overhead …

Managing A Ripple In The New Wave Of Education Initiatives: Validity Of Assessment, Judson C. Faurer
Managing A Ripple In The New Wave Of Education Initiatives: Validity Of Assessment, Judson C. Faurer
Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology
With the increased attention to, and interest in, Distance Education/Online courses by academic institutions, students, and faculty, there is a concomitant increase in the difficulty of assessing the integrity of the assignments produced by students. Academic institutions see the opportunity for increased enrollment without an increase in campus facilities. Students appreciate the flexibility in scheduling and the self-paced opportunity while faculty may have mixed feeling about the drawn out interaction with and between students and the lack of assurance that assignments submitted are truly the work of the respective student. Personal experience and discussion with students and other faculty validates …

How Telecommunications Is Assisting The United States In Adult Educational Distance Learning Programs, Telemedicine, And Future Applications, Minna Ann Harrison
Graduate Research Papers
The future of telecommunications becomes more unpredictable every passing day. Products and services that were just dreamed of in the past, only six months to a year ago, are here and ready to be used in everyday life. Wireless service has been affected by PCS providers who are offering services to customers that are considerably cheaper. Voice recognition programs/applications were only being bounced around in 1997, but currently are being used at work places and homes. At the 1998 Comdex technology trade show six major software companies were promoting their voice recognition programs.
There are some glitches still. But as …
