Competencies Of The Twenty-First Century Superstore Manager: Implications For Professional Postsecondary Education, Robert Stephen Kelley

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

In recent years, supermarkets have become more complex and challenging to operate. Many supermarkets offer an expanded selection of products and services not found in the traditional format. These new generation supermarkets have been labeled by the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) as superstores. The purpose of this study was to identify a competency model needed to successfully operate a superstore over the next 5-10 years. In addition, the study sought to identify the core competencies that formulate the superstore competency model and to compare the results of the model to the Contemporary Store Manager Model which was created from a …

Australian Aboriginal Students In Higher Education, Ian Malcolm, Judith Rochecouste Jan 1998

Australian Aboriginal Students In Higher Education, Ian Malcolm, Judith Rochecouste

Research outputs pre 2011

One of the striking features of Australian higher education over the last ten years has been the marked increase in participation by Indigenous Australians. In a National Review of Education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, carried out in 1994, it was noted that the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students had more than doubled between 1988 and 1993 (National Review of Education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, 1994:28-29). Indigenous Australians constitute 1.6 per cent of the population of Australia and in 1993 some 5,578 indigenous people were attending Australian public universities, which is 1.3% …

Adults "Making Meaning" At Colonial Williamsburg: A Descriptive Study Of Planners' Intentions And Audience Members' Constructions Of The 1996 History Forum, Joan Ellen Casey

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

Forecasts reveal an increase in the percentage of mid to older adults in the U. S. and the need of educational programs for lifelong learners. In recognition of changing demographics, the American Association of Museums urged its member institutions to place a high priority on adult programs and research into learning. While museums have experienced changes in adapting to environmental conditions and more explicit educative mission, professionals have noticed the emergence of a meaning-making, constructivist paradigm.;Previously, no study dealt with the mental constructions adults have or form as they interface with a multi-faceted museum program such as the History Forum …

Predictors Of Self-Perceptions Of Behavioral Competence, Self-Esteem, And Willingness To Communicate: A Study Assessing Impact In A Basic Interpersonal Communication Course, Sherwyn P. Morreale, Michael Z. Hackman, Michael R. Neer

Basic Communication Course Annual

Considering the emergent role of evaluation in higher education, it is important that assessment procedures be developed for all communication courses. Courses such as public speaking already have well established assessment programs while other courses are in need of additional attention. This article describes an assessment program that examines the impact of an interpersonal course on undergraduates' self-perceived behavioral and affective competence. Using a pre- and post-test model, assessment was based on administration of the Communication Behaviors Inventory, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the Willingness to Communicate Scale. These outcomes were measured as a function of gender, age, and ethnicity. …

Learning Style Preferences And Academic Achievement Within The Basic Communication Course, Charles A. Lubbers, William J. Seiler Jan 1998

Learning Style Preferences And Academic Achievement Within The Basic Communication Course, Charles A. Lubbers, William J. Seiler

Basic Communication Course Annual

Students enrolled in a basic communication course taught using the personalized system of instruction (PSI) were studied to determine the influence of learning style preferences on academic achievement. The twenty measures of the Canfield Learning Style Inventory (CLSI) were regressed with three measures of student academic achievement. Eight of the twenty were significant in at least one of the three equations. Two of the learning style measures (class organization and performance expectations) were significant with all three measures of achievement. Two applications of the findings for basic course instructors are presented.
