LGBTQ youths report less satisfaction with their sex education curriculum than their heterosexual counterparts. The discrepancy between heterosexual sex education and that of LGBTQ is alarming. Currently, as it is reported within the Unites States, students feel as though LGBTQ sex education and resources are not readily available. A brief handout of LGBTQ inclusive practices was created for educators to reference when creating future lesson plans. The aim of this presentation was to create a more open and inclusive dialogue surrounding LGBTQ+ health.

Sinusitis is a leading cause of primary care visits. The majority of cases are due to a viral infection, which can be self-treated with supportive care. Many patients are unaware of this and seek medical attention prematurely, incurring significant healthcare costs and resulting in antibiotic misuse. On the other hand, a prolonged infection or the presence of atypical symptoms does warrant medical attention and can potentially lead to untoward consequences if inadequately treated. The purpose of this project is to provide patient education on the expected course of an acute sinus infection and how to proceed with management.

This project identified a significant need for adolescent sex education and curriculum development in Vermont and the United States. A comprehensive sex education presentation was developed, reviewed by experts in the field, and piloted at The Boys and Girls Club of Burlington. Subjective results were positive and future strategies to teach students, evaluate effectiveness, and expand impact were developed.

Viruses are the most common cause of respiratory infections, and the most common illness encountered by patients. Antibiotics are frequently requested by the patient to treat viral infections, and efforts by physicians to educate patients on the inefficacy of this treatment plan is often unsuccessful.
