The Relationship Of Written Expression To Self Concept In Primary Children, Anna Lou Case
The Relationship Of Written Expression To Self Concept In Primary Children, Anna Lou Case
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis, the outcome of nearly three years of preparation, including study, development of procedures, trial and observation, was begun in an attempt to answer the following questions: How may original writing among elementary pupils be motivated successfully? Can positive feelings about self be promoted to a measurable degree as a result of emphasizing individual oral and written expression?
Although much thinking and evaluating occurred during the three years, the experimentation and results reported here are limited to the work accomplished and findings obtained during the third year. The twenty-six children involved in this study were third-year elementary pupils, whose …

An Experimental Study Of The Effectiveness Of The Developmental Mathematics Course At Lehigh County Community College, Robert G. Clark
An Experimental Study Of The Effectiveness Of The Developmental Mathematics Course At Lehigh County Community College, Robert G. Clark
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The primary purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Developmental Mathematics program at the Lehigh county Community College. There was no positive evidence that the existing method of selecting students and/or the material content of the course was affective in achieving its stated objective; that of bringing the skill and ability of weak students needing remedial treatment up to the minimum level required for probable success in first-year college mathematics. The general hypothesis posed was that the students who took the Developmental Mathematics course would perform better in first-year college mathematics than those students whose ACT …

Professional Training And Responsibilities Of Supervisors Of Academic Teacher Of The Deaf As Perceived By Selected Administrators, Principals, Supervisors, And Teachers Of The Deaf, Peter O. Mba
Doctoral Dissertations
Statement of the Problem: Schmitt, Quigley, and Quadagno (1968, pp. 3, 27) pointed out that little attention had been given to the qualification and responsibilities of supervisors of academic teachers of the deaf as regards "evaluative studies." They stressed the need for some uniformity of practice in connection with the kind and degree of academic training and "professional experience" required of supervisors. Brill (1971, p. 138) supporting Schmitt and his partners, called attention to the relatively "little objective research" in regard to role definition for supervisors and necessary academic preparation for their position. Griffing (1968, p. 678) emphasized that definition …

Designing And Implementing Open Workshop Education At Bank Street College Of Education, Stanley Chu
Graduate Student Independent Studies
Bank Street College of Education needs to design and implement an expanded program of open workshop education. Increased input of staff, scheduled time, and equipment is necessary for this implementation.
Open workshop education offers help, time and facilities where a teacher can be involved with learning concepts using a combination of materials and skills. In addition, it can also function as an opportunity to continue and further develop ideas and skills initiated in other classes or from one's own school or classroom.

Materials To Supplement An Individualized Mathematics Program, Virginia Condon
Materials To Supplement An Individualized Mathematics Program, Virginia Condon
All Graduate Projects
This project represents an attempt to develop some materials to supplement the Addison-Wesley Mathematics Program for Grade 2. The commercial program, as it stands, is conceptually sound. Operationally, however, it in many cases did not satisfactorily meet the needs of the individual students of the classroom.
Therefore, the basic material was retained (i.e., student workbooks, teacher's manual, unit tests). Materials have been developed which allow some individualization in the presentation of the concepts, self-pacing by the student, testing devices, working conditions, manipulative materials, and follow-up worksheets. These terms are further explained in the pages that follow, as well as their …
A Language Arts Curriculum Guide For Seventh And Eighth Grade Indian Students At St. Mary's Mission Omak, Washington, William Peter Kelly
A Language Arts Curriculum Guide For Seventh And Eighth Grade Indian Students At St. Mary's Mission Omak, Washington, William Peter Kelly
All Graduate Projects
St. Mary's Mission is situated five miles outside Omak, Washington, on the Colville Indian Reservation. It operates boarding and school facilities for one hundred and seventy Indian children in grades one through eight. Although the school has been in operation for ninety years, and is the only elementary boarding school for Indian children in the state, it has never developed or been provided with a written curriculum.
Without a curriculum guide, recording of the year to year progress of the children in the school program has been limited to the cryptic evaluation of the Spokane Diocesan report card form and …
