This student-run weekly newspaper was known simply as R.I.S.D., or RISD Paper. The RISD Paper ran through the late 1960s and into the 1970s. The issue of December 15, 1969 had a letter about saving Carr House, the student run coffee house. There also were Student Board notes, a recipe, and events for RISD students. A memo from John Lincoln, Dean of Students was also included concerning the Freshman Foundation department.

One of the phenomena of twentieth century America is the enormous growth in size and influence of the advertising industry. It is impossible to avoid the visual and aural images of sultry women and sophisticated men (and various portions of their anatomy), who order, persuade and cajole the public through the media of television, newspapers and magazines. The Designer's News was a student-run weekly newspaper published in the late 1960s. The issue of May 19-25, 1969 featured an article about the RISD Landscape Architecture department's study to save Block Island, RI. There also was an interview with John Torres about summer programs at RISD and at a school in Vermont, and an article about a RISD photo student who taught local pre-teens about photography. Also included was an article about the Rhode Island Art Festival and some RISD students who were volunteering their time to help.

The Designer was a student newspaper published in 1942. Three issues remain today. The first two issues are written by typewriter on loose sheaves of paper. The issue of May 12-18, 1969 included articles about Apparel Design's annual show Collection 1969, and an article about Man and his Technology, a seminar that was attended by 250 people. There was a brief article about racial troubles at Hope High School in Providence that was from a publication called EXTRA. Comics, ads, letters and art exhibits were also mentioned.

Studies show that all children start life with a creative spark, but by the time they get to the fourth grade it is knocked out of them. This is because our schools and society as a whole tend to teach children to conform. They are expected to be just like everyone else. They are all taught to act alike, dress alike, learn alike, think alike, and on and on. Children soon learn which are the safest paths in life to follow. Soon they have hidden their creative potential so deep in never finds its way out again.
