The purpose of this study is to describe, explain and conclude a series of experiments in search of the creative aspects of light and shadow when applied to the concept of “light-painting” by using clay in an experimental way in a wall panel. Inventing ways to use tools which are easily available to teachers of all levels, relates this study to the ever-present problems of art education.

The purpose of this paper is to describe, explain and conclude a series of experiments in search of the development of a clay body that would have the characteristics of: (1) vitrifying at Cone 4, yet be refractory enough to withstand the heat; and (2) being plastic so that is works well on the wheel. Additional study involved the experimentation of glazes on the clay bodies with the hopes of finding some to fit. The factors determining the use of clays that are economical and easily accessible to Central Washington College of Education were also considered.

It was the purpose of the writer to conduct a series of line blend experiments with mineral pigments in a prepared fritted glaze with the intention of finding: (1) the effects of the different mineral pigments, and (2) the desired quantities of these coloring agents in a given glaze. This leads directly into the problems of this study; how can society better understand modern art as a functional value in everyday living?
