Learning Reconsidered: Supporting The Preparatory Year Student Experience, Rania M Rafik Khalil
Learning Reconsidered: Supporting The Preparatory Year Student Experience, Rania M Rafik Khalil
English Language and Literature
Preparatory Year students are challenged by many aspects of their academic life as they make the transition from school to university. As a result, there has been growing emphasis on accountability for the quality of student life, teaching and learning. It has been observed that when faculty supported students’ efforts to meet high expectations, students rose to the challenge. The role of faculty staff is not simply to disseminate information but rather to create conditions that assist students to construct their own knowledge. Excellence in teaching and learning can only occur when both faculty and students are both actively engaged.

Fact Books
I am proud to introduce the 19th annual Southwestern Oklahoma State University Fact Book. The Fact Book provides a ready source of information to answer frequently asked questions about the University and its operations. Unless otherwise noted, the information in this Fact Book came from computer-generated reports that are printed following the tenth class day of each fall semester. Because of student fluctuations during the semester, numbers will not match other published enrollment numbers that may be based on enrollment at the end of a semester.

Relationship Education For Low Income Couples And Individuals: New Research Directions, Lindsey Einhorn
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The current study implemented and evaluated an adapted version of the Within Our Reach program called FRAME. Participants were 173 low-income couples in committed relationships and caring for at least one child together. Participating couples were randomly assigned to one of the four study conditions (couples group, female group, male group, or control group). The impact of the program was investigated on a range of relationship and mental health outcomes. The present findings suggest that the FRAME workshop was helpful in reducing negative communication and improving positive bonding for our sample. Couples were able to benefit in some areas when …

Factors That Influence Learning Satisfaction Delivered By Video Streaming Technology, Daniel Stephen Keenan
Factors That Influence Learning Satisfaction Delivered By Video Streaming Technology, Daniel Stephen Keenan
STEMPS Theses & Dissertations
In 2005, over 100,000 e-Learning courses were offered in over half of all U.S. postsecondary education institutions with nearly 90% of all community colleges and four year institutions offering online education. Streaming video is commonplace across the internet offering seamless video and sound anywhere connectivity is available effectively making any location a learning environment. The problem investigated in this study was to determine factors that affect the learning satisfaction of students that video streamed courses. This study is important to enable improvements in curriculum, delivery of content, designs of alternative study venues, and guide college administrators in making decisions on …

Implementer Perceptions Of Washington State's Integrated Basic Education And Skills Training (I-Best) Program, Robert W. Fox
Implementer Perceptions Of Washington State's Integrated Basic Education And Skills Training (I-Best) Program, Robert W. Fox
Educational Foundations & Leadership Theses & Dissertations
Basic skills instruction has had poor success in equipping adults with the training needed in today's global economy. The educational leaders in Washington State realized the necessity of rapidly equipping adults with career skills and developed the Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) program to meet workforce needs. In 2004, Washington State piloted the I-BEST program in ten institutions, but it has since expanded to all 34 of the State's community colleges. I-BEST is an instructional method which provides basic skills support to ABE and ESL students while they receive career training. I-BEST uniquely pairs a basic skills instructor …
Exploring Entrepreneurialism In Community Colleges In The Appalachian Region, Sharon Lynn Hatfield
Exploring Entrepreneurialism In Community Colleges In The Appalachian Region, Sharon Lynn Hatfield
Educational Foundations & Leadership Theses & Dissertations
The combination of a weak economy with a corresponding decline in tax revenue has created deficits in state and local budgets which adversely affect the financial stability of community colleges. This leaves community colleges struggling to continue to provide education in support of their missions. To provide a source of alternative revenue, community colleges are embracing the spirit of entrepreneurialism and transforming themselves into profit-seeking businesses.
This quantitative study, using a web-based survey and descriptive and inferential statistics, focuses on factors perceived by college presidents and workforce development officers to affect the practice of entrepreneurialism in 71 community colleges in …

Text And Texture: An Arts-Based Exploration Of Transformation In Adult Learning: A Dissertation, Enid E. Larsen
Text And Texture: An Arts-Based Exploration Of Transformation In Adult Learning: A Dissertation, Enid E. Larsen
Educational Studies Dissertations
This research explored the transformational and co-transformational potential of collage, assemblage and mixed media in an accelerated undergraduate adult course on imagination and creativity. The methods were qualitative and arts-based artist-teacher inquiry within a constructivist art class for ten, female adult learners. Informed by the researcher's living inquiry through visual auto-ethnography, a collagist methodology shaped the research, including syllabus construction, course delivery and data gathering. Process was an emergent and interpretative analytic tool, drawn from multiple perspectives of artwork and reflections by the students, and the multiple identities inherent to the artist-teacher researcher.

The mentors and mentees, respectively, expressed their experiences of the mentoring relationship as well as their satisfaction with UCAMP, offering suggestions for its improvement. An interview protocol framed the interview and details of what took place during that time for both the …
