The focus of the paper is on equity issues, and in all discussions of equity the underpinning principle is equality of opportunity. Where places on a third-level course are limited, for example, all applicants must be treated equally and the places allocated in a ‘fair’ manner. This does not mean that one cannot discriminate in the true sense …

Fact Books
I am proud to introduce the twelfth annual Southwestern Oklahoma State University Fact Book. The reader may note that several of the pages have been changed because of the recent reorganization of the academic colleges. The Fact Book provides a ready source of information to answer frequently asked questions about the University and its operations. Unless otherwise noted, the information in this Fact Book came from computer-generated reports that are printed following the tenth class day of each fall semester. Because of student fluctuations during the semester, numbers will not match other published enrollment numbers that may be based on …

Essays in Education
A purposive review of selected literature related to promotion and tenure in the university was conducted during the last year. From this literature review a constant comparative method of document data analysis was conducted. This method involves reviewing all documents, i.e. articles, handbooks, cases, field notes and interview data. The findings of our study suggest that the tenure and promotion process is impacted by differing values and literal interpretations after review of the candidates’ tenure file. We recommend that sustained review include senior colleagues and use of a productivity schematic to document professional activity over the tenure time frame.
