The present study examined whether University students who learned English as a second language differed from English monolingual students on their ability to detect inconsistent content in short informational texts about animals. Adults completed a self-paced reading task, performed text recalls, and completed a True/False test. Half of the texts contained information in the 5th sentence that contradicted the 2nd sentence’s information (inconsistent condition). The other half did not contain any contradictions (consistent condition). Participants also completed language and cognitive tasks as individual differences measures. Graduate level nursing students are exposed to overload and exhaustion due to academic and professional demands, increasing exposure to stressors resulting in elevated levels of perceived stress, burnout, and alexithymia. This quantitative research, utilizing an online methodology at a midwestern university, explored the prevalence of perceived stress, compassion satisfaction (CS), compassion fatigue (CF), burnout, and alexithymia among master’s level nursing students. The descriptive analysis utilized the Pearson correlation coefficient (Pearson r) by use of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), the Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL), and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20). Through a grant-funded opportunity called CARLI Counts, I participated in in-person and online training, mentoring, and team projects which enabled me to do a small assessment of the use of Interlibrary Loan, Reference services, and a nursing database by students in selected Olivet Nazarene University School of Graduate and Continuing Studies programs.
