Background: Adequate echocardiographic (echo) education is integral to successful cardiology training. Online education is proven to be effective in other specialties, but pediatric echo training data are lacking.

Objectives/Goal: Our aim was to design and assess the role of a novel online module-based curriculum to enhance pediatric cardiology fellows’ echo education.

Methods/Design: Four interactive modules, focused on principles and interpretation of a normal echo, were delivered to fellows. Graduate level nursing students are exposed to overload and exhaustion due to academic and professional demands, increasing exposure to stressors resulting in elevated levels of perceived stress, burnout, and alexithymia. This quantitative research, utilizing an online methodology at a midwestern university, explored the prevalence of perceived stress, compassion satisfaction (CS), compassion fatigue (CF), burnout, and alexithymia among master’s level nursing students. The descriptive analysis utilized the Pearson correlation coefficient (Pearson r) by use of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), the Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL), and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20). This research examined the nature of the patterns of communication of discussion board users who were enrolled in undergraduate online courses. For purpose of analysis, this study used Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework (1992). Data were collected from discussion board posts of eight undergraduate online courses. An examination of these data was further informed by Garrison, Anderson, & Archer (1999) Community of Inquiry model.
