Higher education around the world is currently undergoing a neo-liberal administrative takeover. The drive to reduce costs and increased bureaucratization do not serve any other purpose than increasing the power of the universities’ administration. The reasons for allowing this situation to happen are related to scholars’ inertia and subscribing to a belief that academia can and should be impractical. As a result, the emerging corporate university, McDonaldized model relies increasingly on contingent and deskilled faculty, effectively eliminating the traditional academic freedoms. Use of pornography is common among adolescents and young adults, with most men and a growing number of women viewing regularly. A vast body of research suggests pornography use is associated with multiple attitudinal and behavioral variables. One of those associations, for both men and women, is higher pornography use is correlated with a lower likelihood of intervening to prevent sexual assault. The present study explored how motives for viewing pornography related to male (n = 139) and female (n = 290) college students’ willingness and efficacy to intervene to help prevent a sexual assault from occurring. Born again Christians are a significant religious population in the United States, and throughout the world. The process by in which a born again identity is assumed is not clearly described in the research literature. Therefore, we asked 18 born again Christian college students a series of questions designed to uncover what led to their identity of being born again. Responses fell into three overarching themes. First, participants described exposure within relationships to God’s principles. However, there is a lack of evidence-based design guidelines to amplify the play value of outdoor preschool settings. Meta-Analytic Study: Student Connectedness Across On-Ground, Fully Online, And Hybrid Contexts, Hannah L. Smith, An H. Dang, R. M. Mueller

This meta-analysis was conducted to assess student sense of classroom community across three class contexts in post-secondary education settings: On-ground (OG), Hybrid (Hy), and Fully Online (FO). The group comparison of OG versus FO resulted in a significant difference (Hedge’s g = 0.749, p < 0.001), representing a relatively large effect size. The outcome of the student connectedness and overall SOC in the OG versus Hy condition resulted in a smaller effect size, which was not statistically significant (g = -.0158, p = 0.566). Cost-oriented automation has a long tradition in IFAC and attracts a lot of attention in literatures associated, for example, with business process improvement. Whilst process-oriented cost reduction (such as LEAN for example) have been widely disseminated, in recent years practical cost-oriented solutions for automatic processes have not been reported so much in the literature. This is surprising given the increasing constraints upon, for example, manufacturing organisations in less developed peripheral regions. Purpose: This paper aims to provide a re-envisioning of traditional conceptualizations of scholarship informed by knowledge assets theory, trends shaping the modern university and technological advancements. We introduce social scholarship, a set of scholarly practices being envisioned within the conventional four domains of scholarship (i.e. discovery, integration, teaching and application). This paper provides concrete examples of the benefits and challenges of enacting social scholarly practices in light of Boisot’s theory of information flows, proprietary knowledge and the social learning cycle.
Design/methodology/approach: This article is a cross-disciplinary conceptual exploration.

Given that Southeast Asian American (SEAA) students are severely underrepresented in higher education and less likely to persistence to graduation compared to other ethnic groups in the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, this study explored critical factors to their college success. Indeed, several themes emerged from this national sample of 34 participants from five public, four year colleges and universities. In this present article, we discuss one of the salient themes—the role of social capital as facilitators of college access and success. This article concludes with implications for research and practice.

Although research has shown that more Asian American and Latina/o students are choosing to attend historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), no research has offered insight into what motivates students from these demographics to enroll in these institutions. Given this, we explored the college choice process for Asian American and Latina/o students at a public HBCU. This article concludes with implications to help HBCUs be more intentional about increasing the recruitment and enrollment of students from these populations as well as discussing future research considerations.

A Meta-Analysis On Involvement In Learning Outcomes Across On-Ground, Online, And Hybrid Classroom Settings, An H. Dang, Hannah L. Smith, R. M. Mueller

In this meta-analysis we investigate the influence of psychological sense of community (PSOC) on post-secondary students’ outcomes. When comparing the OG and FO settings, the Hedges’s g of .343 (p = .003) indicated that on-ground courses have a moderate, positive effect on student involvement in learning outcomes when measured by CCS than those in fully online courses. The When comparing the OG and Hy settings, there was no significant difference between students in these groups with regard to self-reported student involvement in learning [Hedges’s g = .164, p = .362)].
