Predicting Reading Readiness From Human Figure Drawings, Charles W. Williams
All Master's Theses
This study was undertaken specifically to aid the Arlington Elementary School in Tacoma, Washington. The expressed need of this school was to find a best predictor of the readiness of kindergarten age children to begin formal reading programs. It was hoped that an adequate yet easily administered and scored instrument could be found to place students in appropriate first grade ungraded reading groups.

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
One of the most exciting prospects in our search for excellence in the teaching of reading is emerging from the field of psychology. By now it is axiomatic that our efficiency as teachers is inextricably bound up with the psychological aspects of the individual student. All of us have been told over and over again to Pay Attention To The Individual. As a matter of fact this admonition has become so universal that it now has attained the status of being called by its initials: PATTI.

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
Preparing the child for schooling, the greatest experience of child hood, can be an exciting and rewarding experience for the parents. While the child is under their almost exclusive control in the pre-school years, they can initiate their own Head Start program instilling habits and attitudes in the child by simple methods, lovingly and patiently taught.

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
The Secondary Reading Department in the Kalamazoo Public Schools is attempting a new dimension in its program. It is generally assumed that one person cannot adequately diagnose students with serious reading deficiencies. For this reason plans are being made to hold case conferences on certain students who have not made progress in reading. The conference will be a clinical approach to the problem with the hope of accomplishing the following:

National Collegiate Honors Council Monographs
The National Collegiate Honors Council conducted its second annual meeting at the Statler-Hilton Hotel, Washington, D.C., October 20-22, 1967. About 230 faculty members, administrators, and students attended this meeting. The proceedings of that meeting are contained in this volume. The meeting was basically devoted to three concerns: (1) the problem of liaison between secondary schools and college honors programs; (2) problems and developments in the offering of science courses for honors students; (3) the exchange of information about problems and new directions in the honors program of those participating in the meeting. For the most part, the papers in this …

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
By popular definition an antique is an article one hundred or more years old. It is from the Victorian period that we have the "new antiques." The nineteenth century is considered by many authorities as a time of poor design and bad taste. However, when some of the pieces of furniture were taken from the clutter of patterns and bric-a-brac, they possess a certain charm. The furnishings reflect the ambitious people who were climbing industrially and socially. The history of furnishings in the nineteenth centory has no clear-cut pattern, but many overlapping developments and changing fashions. An industrial revolution was …

Educating The Mentally Retarded Child, Amelia Owen
Educating The Mentally Retarded Child, Amelia Owen
Honors Theses
The whole field of educational theory and practice has changed considerably in the past fifty years or so and educational thinking about mentally retarded children has reflected these changes. Programs in institutions have probably lagged behind public school programs because institutions have been somewhat secluded from the active flow of social change.
The principles of learning are essentially the same for the mentally retarded child as for the average child, but there are degrees and varieties of application.

A Description And Interpretation Of Social Values Contained In Two Of Robert Ruark's Books, The Honey Badger And Something Of Value, Jane Fowler Quick
OBU Graduate Theses
Two of Robert Ruark's books, The Honey Badger, and Something of Value, proved their entertainment value, but what of the content of the writings? The Honey Badger was written of the United States and revealed certain patterns of behavior in a sophisticated society of the Eastern United States. Something of Value was written of East Africa and revealed something of Kenya society. Did these books reveal any basic behavior patterns which are similar or could be useful to leaders who are trying to effect social change?

The problem of this study is to discuss different philosophies and resulting methods of teaching the general music course in the public schools for the purpose of detecting any valid trends in this area of music education.
Since music is an integral part of our democratic educational system and since there is much demand for its teaching, it has been advantageous to determine the most valid methods of instruction. This study, through exploration of different philosophies and methods of teaching the general music class in the public schools, will attempt to ascertain future valid trends in the general music area …
