Following World War Two, the United States and the Soviet Union became the chief rivals for world leadership. Because of this, communism replaced fascism as the totalitarian ideology of most concern to Americans. This new situation brought with it a series of problems for the public schools: Should secondary schools teach about communism? How should this topic be approached? What materials should be provided for use by high school students?

There was a lack of concrete information concerning the influence of the ward education committee on enrolling students in seminary. Therefore, a study which would evaluate the influence of ward education committees on seminary enrollment was undertaken. In view of the aforementioned emphasis on the missionary program of the Church there was a felt need by the author, with encouragement from Ernest Eberhard Jr., of the Department of Education, to do a follow-up study to determine what effect the seminary program has had and is now having upon the lives of its graduates now in the mission field. The Seminaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were organized to provide religious education for high school and junior high school students. Inspirational devotional programs are a part of the class procedure in the Seminaries designed to create a spiritual tone in this religious education. Objectives of these devotional periods are:

This course has been written to present a simplified version of the Book of Mormon for use with students whose reading skills are below average. It was specifically designed for released-time Indian seminary students. The Indian students often find it very hard to compete with white students in seminary. Where this problem exists teachers have found it advisable to form all-Indian classes.

Released-time Indian seminary classes are a recent addition to the L.D.S. Seminary system. In the 1962-63 school year two such classes were held. The future holds promise that many more will be instituted. Teaching the Book of Mormon …

This study was undertaken for the purpose of determining the effectiveness of L.D.S. Seminary-oriented home night program. The home night program consisted of an experimental group of students holding weekly home nights with their parents, following discussion of gospel principles in Seminary during the school hours. A control group was established which supplemented its program writing weekly summaries instead of directing a home night.
