In 2018, the elementary school where I serve as an instructional interventionist adopted a data-based multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS). Although our process has evolved over the years, I saw room for improvement. Therefore, the purpose of this action research study was to improve the MTSS process at my school, specifically by addressing teachers’ lack of awareness of their role. Framing the study with a combination of social cognitive theory and curriculum ideologies, I explored 12 English language arts teachers’ perceptions of the MTSS model, curricular views, and sense of self-efficacy. Through a two-phase, mixed-method approach, I investigated how sharing …

The three key ideas of focus were on whether the PRIMED framework could increase the coach-participants’ commitment to character education, self-efficacy as character educators, and self-identification as Servant Leaders in an effort to “nurture the flourishing of human goodness” (Berkowitz, 2021) of our youth and, in this case, specifically, high school student-athletes.

With millions of youth involved in sport in North America and across …

Black Males’ Self-Efficacy And College Attendance: A Quantitative Study, Shawanda Beale May 2023

Black Males’ Self-Efficacy And College Attendance: A Quantitative Study, Shawanda Beale

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

This study will investigate the relationship between Black males’ self-efficacy, college aspirations, and college attendance. Researchers have examined self-efficacy among racial groups and gender (Richardson et al., 2013). Yet, the researcher is interested in examining factors that relate to Black males aspiring to and attending college and the role of self-efficacy in those relationships. Self-efficacy involves belief in one’s ability to accomplish goals (Bandura, 1997). Self-efficacy helps students see themselves as capable of achieving goals. Students with higher self-efficacy develop action plans to attend college, and students with lower self-efficacy are less likely to develop action plans to attend college. …
